The Pirates are putting Marte in CF for the 2017 season, with Polanco moving to LF and McCutchen moving to RF. Maybe it's just me but wouldn't it make more sense to put Cutch in LF and let Polanco stay in right? Cutch doesnt have a strong arm and has diminishing speed. Seems like he would be the obvious choice for LF. Plus now you have three guys changing positions, instead of only two.

FWIW, Selsky has posted WRC+ of at least 102 at every level in his professional career, save for a 99 AB sample in his first taste of AA in 2013 (WRC+ 45).

I'm guessing that if they claimed Selsky it's because they think he's better than Blash. Both were available at the same time. I can't remember ever having seen Selsky play so I'd only be checking the stat line (which is solid). I'm actually pretty happy with the outfield depth now. Even if Brentz were to get claimed, they have Young and Holt on the bench, Selsky in the minors with options, Castillo in an emergency or if he plays better. Plus their right fielder is a good center fielder and their left fielder could do it in a pinch. Well, for what it's worth, we don't know if Blash had been put on waivers yet. At that point they had 2 more days. SD might be hoping to trade Blash for a C- prospect rather than put him through waivers. I also think saying Benintendi could play CF "in a pinch" doesn't give him enough credit. He wasn't going to be a gold glover, but he can field that position capably. In fact, I almost wonder if something happened to JBJ if he wouldn't be the one to move rather than Betts, who's now comfortable in RF (plus RF's importance at Fenway). But your point stands that you only really need corner OF depth on the bench.I agree fully, if only because a RF replacement is harder to find than a LF replacement. OTOH, in that hypothetical situation I totally expect Farrell to denounce Chris Young replacement CF-er

We've three top 20 prospects according to Law, but we have to see until tomorrow's installment to see where they rank precisely.

If Joe Kelly really starts the season at AAA to stretch out as a starter, that's a grave mistake. He has proven time and time again he's not a good starter and now has some bullpen success to boot. Let him provide some value for this team please.

I remember Tobias from a vid from his high school days. I remembered him, because at the time I thought he was one of the more nonathletic players I had seen in a long time yet he was still regarded as a prospect.

Phils DFAed Richie Shaffer, 3B. 2012 first rounder. Pick him up and DFA Brentz. The 40 man roster is at 39 now, so we wouldn't have to DFA Brentz.

Davis has declined quite a bit in the last two years. He's still quite good, but not the lights out guy he used to be. I'd worry that the decline may continue. Really? Well his 2016 year of decline was still better than Thornburg's 2016 breakout year. He's only 31, not 36 and if you were to get 3 good years out of either, out of ANY relief pitcher you trade for, you have to consider that a win. I'll stick to my statement. Red Sox and Cubs packages were pretty equal. The guys they got back are not. I know i would WAY rather have Davis in the 8th next year than Thornburg. Two words: team control.

Haley got traded to the Twins, who also love our scraps, after being picked. Also, is it just me or did half the guys that got picked get traded to the Padres? Before the Rule 5 draft, their 40 man roster only stood at 33 (!), so they had some room.

Check my pulse... I'm dead Giolito AND Lopez for 2014 Jason Heyward-lite. Can't count on that defensive value forever. Nats are crazy for this. Plus their first rounder of last season's draft.
