I want the big tackle from Minn Faalele, 6'8" 380, put him next to Trent on short yardage plays and develop him up to be a starter.

More predictions? I'm thinking Celtics in 6 (at worst). First game should be telling, seeing the matchups and intensity on D. I'm with you but I will say C's in 5. No Middleton and the way the C's are playing D, they just keep on rolling. Hope Embiid isn't out for too long.

What I have learned today about Strange is that he is just like Mankins and why BB loved him in that draft. He plays with a mean streak and is nasty like a bully, that's what BB loves.

The pick is what it is, a head scratcher for most if not all of us. Only time will tell but I would think he has to make some Pro Bowls to justify a first round grade IMO.
The good thing is having 2 3rds and 2 4ths which is where the draft is strong and where great drafts are built so I will lean on that for now.
One thing we don't know is how BB feels about the guys currently on the roster. And by that I mean all the players who have yet to really make an impact on the team. Which happens to be a lot of defensive players drafted over the past two seasons, maybe he is confident in Perkins or McGrone, we have no idea. Heck I'm still trying to figure out how they get those 4 safeties on the field at the same time.

These are looking like two very good series in the East which will lead to a really tough ECF.
Celtics are 30-6 over their last 36. If R Williams can get back to 100% this could be the year. Other teams are dealing with some bad hammies and without rest that doesn't go away.

Seems to me like the Pats could have traded back again and gotten Strange around 40 or so at the least. BB with another real head scratcher. Bucs had Strange in for a top 30 and need a guard so there’s speculation that he may have been their pick, but still… who cares? Not the first time BB has had us all saying... who cares after the 1st round. The only thing that looks good is the 4 picks between 85 and 127. www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=10166387367575637&set=g.2204908445

72 runs and 153 runs in the first 20 games Averaging 3.6 runs and 7.65 hits a game That will get you last place in the Div This is not a small sample size now. 20 games - 1/8th of the season So many black holes Story has killed us offesively and defensively. Edit- if they do not win 12+ of the next 20 games and show a spark... blow this team up. Since when is 20 games to start a season the barometer of a team? The doom and gloom is just a bit overstated at the moment.

People want to keep supporting their opinion that the umps calling balls and strikes is better than computerizing it? Angel Hernandez calls a ball 6 1/2" outside the strike zone a strike and then we have games like this every day, why because being wrong is historically part of the game?

Mac Jones was predicted to the Patriots before last year We were both hopeful for that also if I remember correctly.

I think LB, Oline and CB will be the first 3 picks with CB being the 3rd, if Lloyd falls he will be the 1st pick. Later in the draft they will take some more swings at Oline and WR.

I specifically left a different thread as they were going down that wormhole to just mention that yes Jeter Downs to this point has been a disappointment and that impacts peoples view of the trade. But whatever, I will be signing off now. You guys can have a nice day!!

Exactly they missed like 6 easy layups and put back in the 4th, it shouldn't have been that close. The Nets were lucky and almost stole a game they didn't deserve to win. I see your point, but I don't come to the same conclusion. There's some randomness in basketball, you can play it the right way and put yourself in a good position to win, but then the shots flat out don't fall. It's really tough to win when that happens in the 4th and the Cs found a way. I guess what I mean is that they didn't let down or play poorly as the Nets were going on their run. They almost got boinked by RNG. During that stretch the C's missed 3 layups while the Nets had 2 balls drop in after clanging 3 feet off the rim. That is the randomness you mention and the C's overcame it as you said. That is not easy to overcome down the stretch and the C's did it, hopefully it fuels another layer of confidence.

Ok {sigh} the trade never happened and is now wiped from memory and history books never to be discussed again.

That win speaks volumes about a team that couldn't win a close game for much of the season. As far as I am concerned they won and can play better.

What does that mean? We have to keep it to what he is doing currently and not his history with the team?

Wrong? Your talking in what shoulda or coulda while I'm talking about the reality of what actually happened and I am wrong. Bringing up Graterol at this point is just a waste of time, it didn't happen. What did happen is that the Sox got Downs and he has been a disappointment to this point. I mean he was ranked as high as the #44 prospect in baseball at the time of the trade and now what is he? So yeah it is a major factor in judging the Mookie trade. I certainly hope he turns it around but I am not holding my breathe. Just think about the guys who have hit really well in Worcester, Franchy, Duran, but couldn't hit a thing in Boston and realize he can't even hit down there, he has a long way to go. WRONG! lol i’m sorry i misread what you said. I saw you said supposed to and I ran with it. You need to give these guys regular ABs in the majors before saying they can’t hit. Idk if you played baseball but getting to play every day is a lot different and easier then playing a few days here and there. Franchy and Duran have what 175 ABs combined in a Sox Uniform? That’s not enough to say they can’t hit. If they both got 10 more hits then they are hitting what .350? It’s really to small of a sample size to make that statement. Downs is only 23. I think we need to be a little more patient with him. I agree with you but there is an inherent problem with that when a team is competing to win every game. It is just hard to go thru the growing pains. I am a big Dalbec fan and think he will be a very good player but it is hard for the team to give consistent ab's when he doesn't produce. Yes they need consistent AB's but at what cost to the team. Perdoia came up and sucked for a month and a half then went on to win the ROY award because Francona stuck with him. Bottom line is it is tough to let guys develop at the ML level when every game counts but that is what the Sox will have to navigate to accomplish their goals.

In regards to what was just being discussed in the Devers extension thread that was halted by Chris, rightfully, as being off topic. When we discuss the return on the Mookie deal I think most would say that Downs was supposed to be a big part of that return and his performance to date has been nothing short of terrible. If he had continued to be a top prospect then the debate would be very different, what if he was actually the starting 2nd baseman and producing? Yeah I know prospects are suspects and he is proof. Wrong, Brusdar Graterol was the return with Verdugo. We got spooked by Graterols medical review. Took Downs and Wong instead. So he was the backup option and Verdugo was all we really counted on and he has been nothing short of great since he’s come over for 1/4th of the price tag of Betts. I’m not giving up on Downs like everyone here. Tracy just came out saying his defense and base running are the best on the team and he had a good series despite not hitting for avg. I think he can be a good backup SS/2nd baseman. If he figures out a few things and can hit for a better avg he could be our starting 2nd next year, which is very possible seeing he’s only 23 years old. Wrong? Your talking in what shoulda or coulda while I'm talking about the reality of what actually happened and I am wrong. Bringing up Graterol at this point is just a waste of time, it didn't happen. I don’t understand the infatuation with bulk relievers. Houck and Whitlock should both be starters. Whitlock is on an innings leash so they are going to have to ramp his innings up over time. That’s the only reason it makes sense that he in the role that he is right now. Hill and Wacha are only there to chew up innings the first few months. If they pitch better than expected they’re trade bait to make room for the guys we control for several years. Or they’re the ones who end up in the bulk relief role. Since the very best pitchers in baseball don't average 7 innings and the league average for innings pitched by a starter is 4 2/3s I would say that the infatuation with bulk relievers is here to stay and quite deserved.

I think the Barnes hate is simpler than that: people hate relievers who give up runs sometimes. The expectation is that relievers never allow runs, like Koji or Kimbrel's peak seasons, and every time they do give up a run they're a bum. And Barnes has been on the team, sometimes giving up runs, for years now. Seriously, go through these threads throughout history: any time a short reliever so much as allows a hit, you'll get a "oh, Tazawa's not looking his sharpest today." Maybe, and I should say I don’t “hate” Barnes. He seems like a stand up guy. But I think it isn’t just giving up runs… it is partly how. Barnes is frustrating because you never know who is coming out of the pen. Is it lightning, or is it a guy who can’t find the plate, who seems afraid to throw the fastball, etc. I think Kimbrel is a good comp: his last year or so, he was a high wire act, and it was no fun. I have *never* bought into Barnes-as-closer. Even in the first half last year, I assumed he’d come back to Earth. There is also a sliding scale. I mean, if a 6th-inning guy gives up a run, these things do happen. But often when your closer gives up runs, it costs games. Barnes confidence wanes too much and he nibbles rather than attacks. He said as much last season when the analytics guys convinced him his stuff was good enough to just attack which led to his 1st half of dominance. When he attacks with that 96 mph heater then brings the plus hook he can be really tough.

Exactly why I get in on the game day threads when they are winning and not when they are losing. The negativity during a loss is too much to take sometimes but when they are winning it is a fun read. People expect perfection in a game that is measured in inches, the margin between ok, good and great is thin and these guys aren't robots.

It has certainly been fun to read the box scores for the Sox minors so far with all the great numbers guys are putting up. The pitching in Portland and the hitting in Greenville has been on fire so far. Victor Santos could warrant a big thank you to DD at some point, hell of a PTBNL.
Casas batting .194 with an obp of .350 is interesting. And the return on Renfroe is making that deal look rather smart so far. Maybe that deal will have a bunch of guys eating crow also at some point, I hope.

I hope 2 weeks is enough time for the injured guys to come back but you just never know with how they give so little info on the injuries. With the run they have been on my hopes were up but freakn injuries always seem to hit the Bruins every season right before the playoffs. We now need some luck.
