Just a fun hypothetical. Say Iglesias does have the trade value that Dave Cameron at Fangraphs thinks (linked). Top 75 in baseball. BC decides Xander is a no doubt SS for the next 2-4 years and teams are asking about Iggy. Being realistic what player or prospect would you want? The more I read about Joc Pederson the more I want him in RF for us. He takes BBs, hits for some power, runs and reports have him playing a solid D in CF but the bat would play in a corner. Of course his LH/RH splits are a concern though. www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2013-trade-value-just-missed-the-cut/

I am against trading a top defensive shortstop, who looks like he can hit at least league average for a SS and is still prearbitration eligible.
Hypothetically speaking, if Drew comes back and looks strong and we wanted to see high, I don't think it is a young player for young player deal. Looking for a piece to make us world series favorites makes sense. If he was the principal return for Lee (who I am now against trading for) I could see it.

Classic selling high move by Boston: Ted Cox as centerpiece on a Dennis Eckersley deal 35 years ago. Last year (would have been) with Middlebrooks and his impossible to keep up with negative k/bb rate. Iglesias has his glove as an "out" vs those 2. Cox was up and down as a MILB player and poor as a defender (3b) that they fleeced the tribe out of The Eck for.
Sell high for iglesias? it needs to be an impact player, just like last year when Middlebrooks SHOULD have gone with his impossible to maintain numbers, of which Iglesias has shown K/bb numbers that CAN be maintained, as well as a GG caliber glove.

You would have to believe in two rationale too make this move. One, that Bogaerts is staying at SS for the foreseeable future and, two, Drew is coming back and will stay healthy for the remainder of the season. No legitimate contender will part with a advanced glove at a premium position unless they are confident the position if filled otherwise. You could argue Holt could help fill in as a utility infielder but you would be creating weakness in one area too improve another. I don't see it as a realistic possibility right now. The team isn't going to rush Bogaerts up too play full time in a pressure filled stretch run. In all likelihood this is a move that could be considered in the off season when the team has more options to fill the spot either with Bogaerts starting the year there or bringing in a short term FA. This would depend on Iglesias continuing to perform at an above average offensive level to hold his value.
If this were the case I can tell you which young player I'd target. Since Pittsburgh has been enamored with Iglesias before and could still use some SS help I'd turn there first. Maybe he's enough or maybe it requires adding a pitching prospect to the deal of some level but I'd be eyeing Gregory Polanco OF as my target. In a system that could use another high upside OF prospect Polanco would fit in great and offers CF flexibility.

I don't want to trade Iggy, but if the sox aren't sold on him now is the time to do it. He should be the starting SS somewhere.

If Middlebrooks starts to come around (hell, maybe even if he doesn't), I'd deal Iglesias in a heartbeat for Polanco.

Pittsburgh is in love with our players/prospects to the point that I honestly think a deal centered around Iglesias could land us Cole or Taillon.

I strongly doubt the Sox would consider trading Iglesias at this point, almost regardless of who was offered in return. Drew coming back is no gain, and he'll probably get hurt again. Middlebrooks is not improving at Pawtucket. Holt is not an adequate fulltime replacement for any infielder. Right now, Iglesias is the best player the Sox have on the left side of the infield. A first place team doesn't trade that kind of player when there isn't an automatic replacement.
I think the Sox will bring up Bogaerts at some point, maybe sooner rather than later, depending on Drew's performance and health, and if Middlebrooks doesn't recover significantly.
The team needs help in a couple of places, but not at the cost of opening up a wound on the left side of the infield.

I could see us trading him this winter, but not while we're in a pennant race and Drew isn't consistently healthy.

Didi Gregorius was dealt for Trevor Bauer so it's not as crazy as it sounds. Wake me up when Cole starts to miss bats again.
