I am pleased to announce this year's Sabermetrics, Scouting, and the Science of Baseball seminar for the Jimmy Fund. The conference, our third, is being held on August 17 and 18 at Boston University's Metcalf Science Center. Like the past two years, we are proud to let you know that every one of the speakers at this event (who are not only incredible baseball resources, but are also amazingly altruistic) are donating their time to participate in this seminar. Boston University’s Center for Computational Neuroscience is graciously hosting the event, and volunteers have helped with the website, the program, and food. This means that every penny earned during this baseball weekend will go directly to the Jimmy Fund. The organizers of this baseball weekend would like to express their gratitude to everyone who helped make this event possible.
The event features some amazing speakers, including Red Sox manager John Farrell, ex-MLB pitcher and sabermetrician Brian Bannister, Sox' and Indians' directors of baseball analytics Tom Tippett and Keith Woolner, an incredible scouting panel with Sox' director of pro scouting, Jared Porter, assistant director of amateur scouting Gus Quattlebaum, and director of player development Ben Crockett, and many more including top authors, sabermetricians, scientists, and doctors. The goal of the conference is to increase fan awareness of the necessity to blend traditional scouting with advanced statistics and science in order to achieve optimal assessments and results. More importantly, we want to raise lots of money to help Dana Farber in their fight against cancer.
Limited tickets are still available to both the seminar and the Baseball Prospectus Saturday night after conference party which many of the participants will be attending. This is a great opportunity to talk and learn baseball with some of the game's best and brightest minds while also helping to cure cancer.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at frisbetarian@gmail.com
Thanks.
