Funny how a lot of people on this board were pining for Peavy or Lee and were ready to unload significant prospects but now it is panic central.
Don't worry, it will only take 5 years to restock the system...

Having fun catching up on this thread. Good to see Temple back. He hadn't had a meltdown in so long I was afraid the staff had him sedated.

Better not be for Iggy (as reported by EEI postgame)? Why I'd have no problem with that. He is just blocking Bogaerts at this point.

All Peavy discussion belongs in the new thread. All posts after this one discussing the Peavy trade will be deleted.

I miss scaffolds being here to point out how easily the Red Sox discard their latin players.
Now, are we getting rid of some of those Rule 5 guys for a RP upgrade or what?

Any one up for a Doubront + 2 from RDLR/Webster/Ranaudo/Barnes/Owens/Checcini/Marrero + 2 low level prospects for Stanton? Now that and peavy would be a blockbuster trading deadline haul for Redsox?
Edit: Even with out the above trade if WMB can put up a 750-800 OPS and Xander can meet his potential, 2014 will be an exciting team to follow.

I almost wonder if we can take advantage of what seems to be a really low price for Peavy (especially when compared to the original asking price and the price paid for Garza) and flip another deal. I have no idea what it would be, and I know the aforementioned idea won't happen, but the Sox really could make a profit. (Profit being in terms of players, not money)

I suggested the same possibility in the Peavy post earlier. I prefer the starting pitching depth over trading but if you move Peavy in the off season you clear the salary and could get a decent prospect back which could perhaps be more than Iglesias. Although letting Peavy pitch in 14 and collecting a comp Supplemental 1st rounder isn't a bad alternative either as I also mentioned earlier. More likely Dempster would be dealt as he makes just a only little less than Peavy and likely wouldn't get a qualifying offer in the end.

Cherington said the Sox are likely done. Thinks they'll handle 3B from within.

Didn't Ben say ljust a few days ago we don't need a pitcher?
We'll see at the deadline, but if this is all there is something more than Brock Holt should be coming up from AAA in the next 10 days.

Apologies if this was discussed late last night. So was JBJ pulled because they were in the middle of negotiations with the Phils for Lee? Was he pulled as a decoy to get leverage with the White Sox? Or was he part of the negotiations with Chicago and they talked them down to Iggy? Would love to have been a fly on that wall last night.

Peavy and Andy Pettitte have the same ERA. Sounds like we have cemented our position in the post season.

Am I the only one who seems to think that something is going to happen with one of Morales Thornton Breslow? They have a glut of lefties and need to make room on the 40 man especially with Miller coming back next year. Would be wise to cash in on a prospect or two in a strong lefty market I would think.

Time frame? Thornton is a rental. There is plenty of room on the 40-man after the season.
