its crazy. Ok, that's out of the way. A local sports talk host in Cincinnati (mo egger) talks every day about the reds giving up a big piece to win now. He always comes back to the idea of moving Chapman for positional players.
The reds have issues in LF, SS and 3B. The Sox have JBJ, Middlebrooks, Iglesias and Drew. JBJ would allow Shin Soo Choo to move to his natural position and would upgrade their outfield even if he didn't put up big offensive numbers.
Every time I hear mo bring this up I can't stop the wheels from turning. I think it could be an interesting move. Chapman would be a force in the pen now and has the potential to be an impact starting pitcher next season.

I don't know how much any one of those players would actually contribute to a team in win-now mode. JBJ would help most teams defense-wise, but his bat, although expected to be good, is still unproven. Middlebrooks' batting eye also has questions and may not ever play again in the majors (not a definite but a possibility). Iglesias could be a piece that could help a win-now team, but he hasn't had enough at bats to establish himself as enough of a legit bat in the major leagues for the Reds to convince their fan base of being worthy of a pitcher like Chapman. Drew is what he is:a very good defensive shortstop with a below-average bat, but a good eye at the plate. None of the players above seem to fit the mold of a typical win-now player with the exception of Drew, who has minimal questions but straight up probably isn't an upgrade over who they have now. All of that said, I would love Chapman, but if he were going anywhere it would probably be for more established players with less questions.

That awkward moment when 3 of the 4 people proposed to be in a trade are either traded or now not expendable within a few hours after proposing said trade.
