Thank god Rubby got called up. He could be a key piece to the Sox bullpen going forward I'm actually surprised. The guy still hasn't shown he can command anything, aside from 2-3 starts where he had good K/BB numbers.

Yeah honestly with the way he's pitched lately I'd have bet on him getting shut down for the year, not called up.

No note that Trey Ball made it through his first complete inning as a pro? And that Nick Longhi got his first two professional hits, and first professional error? Jon Denney's first professional 3 K game?

I don't know that De La Rosa has been called up. There have been a few tweets about this, but the only De La Rosa being called up that I can see is Eury De La Rosa, a left-handed reliever in the Diamondbacks farm system. He got the call-up to replace Skaggs.

Not a bad start to AA by Owens. But I can't take a pitcher with the name of 'Henry' seriously. Hey, Ceccihi has a day off. He has tailed off to 300 but still getting his walks. Vasquez has picked up the average the past month or so.

Hollywood needs to start making fictional baseball movies again. I would say that this is definitely more than "not a bad start", this is a pretty impressive start.

Player IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA Henry Owens 6.0 4 0 0 2 11 0 0.00
"Henry" is probably done after a sterling 95 pitch game in his 1st start in AA. Just one extra base hit (a double). 11 K's!!

What a line for Henry O in his Double-A debut. 6IP 4H 0R 0ER 2BB 11 K's. The lad is our best pitching prospect.

Well, one of them for sure. It's one start. I still want to see better command and consistency of that command form start to start. 53BB in 104 IP in Salem.
But, yes, a very encouraging start for HO tonight.

Given the results, can the fb speed be correct? Seems a bit low Jon Meoli Jon Meoli#redsox LHP Henry Owens with an 88-90 mph FB thru 2. Battling command issues with FB but CH, CU sharp as ever.

(1) I don't think the Bowie gun does anyone any favors, though I haven't been to the park recently. (2) Weather in the DC area has been damp and drizzly this evening. Maybe not an optimum evening for getting loose and throwing one's hardest. But might have been a sub-optimal evening for the hitters as well. Let's see what happens in his remaining starts. Speaking of which, tonight's start puts him 9 innings above his innings total for last season. How much more are we going to see of him?

Great game by Owens, withstood adversity in the second, strike 3 passed ball and an errant throw by Almanzar to first. Speaking of Almanzar, two years ago he looked awkward, now he seems to have grown into his body. Of the bubble candidates for a 40-man roster spot, I would like keep him. In 2-3 years, he could have very good power and his avg is already good.

Since I was running late thanks to recording the latest podcast, I missed half the damn game in Lynchburg tonight - Augliera and the Lynchburg starter were both cookin' - so not a ton to report. I also wasn't bearing down too hard scouting-wise: I was blocked from parking behind anyone with a gun, and frankly, my brain is still mush from the bar, so I was just relaxing.
- Augliera works quick. Pretty good arm-side run on the two-seam. Gave up a lot of loud contact that turned into outs though. I feel like he'll struggle more at higher levels, but he might have a role as a reliever. - Marrero and Betts make up a really good defensive middle infield. Betts made a couple of REALLY nice plays, showing off some range. Marrero looked very smooth, although he did kind of olé one groundball to start the game-ending double play (although he may have done so because he was trying to see around the runner going to third - it was a tough play and hop). - I honestly didn't see enough of anyone at the plate to pass anything along. KDLC did drill one off the CF wall 390' away. - Cody Koback can cover some ground in center. Looks very quick on the bases as well. - Madison Younginer brought some heat - Salem chart gun had him at 97 - with a curve that flashed plus to my untrained eye. FB control wasn't really great though. - You can get pitchers of beer at the concession stands in Lynchburg. Of all places, I didn't think the home of Jerry Falwell would be where you could do that. - The guy sitting in front of me, who had written "Gooooooo Dawgs!" in Sharpie on the back of his UGA hat along with whatever roman numeral the current Uga is, was talking about how he and his wife want to name their baby Atreyu if it's a boy, after the Neverending Story character.
