DetailsSummary- Matt Barnes & Trey Ball swapped places at 8 & 9.
- Christian Vazquez hit a new high mark at # 14, up 2 from last week.
- Rafael Devers is ranked for the first time at # 25.
- Wendell Rijo moved up from 32 to 26.
- Luis Diaz has a new high ranking at 28. Last week he was 37 and the week before he was at 51.
- Keury De La Cruz and Henry Ramos are both down 5 spots at 31 & 32.
- Brock Holt fell 11 positions and is now at # 33.
- Jose De La Torre also fell 11 landing at # 45.
- Kyle Stroup, last ranked at 53 on 7/26, returned to the top 60 at # 53.
- Justin Haley is at 54 after being unranked since he was 57th on 4/26.
- Jose Almonte dropped 14 spots to # 59.
PS: Xander is the first player ever to have been ranked on this site at some point in his career at both #1 and #60.
The closest anybody else has come is to have been ranked at 60 and also as high as 4. There have been three of them. Any guesses? Hint: one should be pretty obvious.

What about them? Lavarnway graduated a long time ago and Britton is on there.

Pretty sure Almanzar is one of them. No clue about the others.

As for the trivia, I'm going to guess they're international players. I can't remember anyone the Sox have drafted that would have started that low and reached that high. Che-Hsuan Lin and Yamaico Navarro?

Almanzar was once #4, cannot think of another candidate who was once 4, but also as low as 60. I am still lobbying for Workman to be grade/scale 5.

Almanzar and Navarro are correct. You said 3 and had already said Almanzar.

Felix was a good guess. His high ranking was 3 and his low was 57. The fact that he was never ranked exactly at 60 was a coincidence though. He just happened to skip over it in both directions.
He was signed some time in '04 and wasn't ranked until August of '05 at # 39. A year later he was up to # 11, and the August after that back down to 57 then off the charts. He was ranked again at 52 in April of '08 and peaked at # 3 in June of '11.
It would have been a better question if I'd asked who has been ranked both in the 1-10 and 51-60 ranges. It's interesting to look at which players over the years have come from nowhere to become highly regarded.

Almanzar and Navarro are correct. You said 3 and had already said Almanzar. Oh, what, you want me to tell you?? :-) The third was Bryce Cox.

Xander cracked top 20 by Jun 2011, when he was still 18, and then stayed there. Given how volatile rankings are for 19 year olds and younger, I don't think this is big deal. On the other hand, hopes were really high for Almanzar in 2008 when he was only 17. I still think he has potential as power bat. There are just not many prospect with natural power that can also hit for avg.

Oh sorry, no I thought you were saying Almanzar and Navarro were the other two when you'd already said Almanzar. My b. Had forgotten that Cox started that low. Shows how meteoric his rise and fall really were.

Chris,
When does Holt 'graduate'? ... and hasn't delaRosa pitched more than the 50 inning rookie limit?

Chris, When does Holt 'graduate'? ... and hasn't delaRosa pitched more than the 50 inning rookie limit? If still with the club, Rubby De La Rosa and Brock Holt will graduate on August 23.

So are you using time on 25-man not ABs or innings?

So are you using time on 25-man not ABs or innings? www.soxprospects.com/about.htmWhere we use that discretion, we try to pinpoint a "graduation" date that makes sense. We won't just have a player graduate suddenly when he's in the minors or anything.
