Do you think the scouting report vs JBJ is to pitch him in on the hands? Busting him in the whole time with cutters and FB. So I should have added yes I guess that must be the current report there. They didn't get away from the inside on him at all. Hes the type that should adjust to that we would hope.

Thought this comparison might be useful. It changes day to day of course, and it doesn't include Napoli's two HRs this game: Player | OBP | SLG | OPS | Mike Napoli | .358 | .461 | .819 | Adrian Gonzalez | .333 | .452 | .784 | Josh Hamilton | .298 | .421 | .719 |
He may frustrate a lot of people with the Ks, but the guy can hit. He always could.

He may frustrate a lot of people with the Ks, but the guy can hit. He always could. Brings up something else many don't want to discuss, or just not face.. I never figured AGone would slack off some, or "mail it in" after he signed his huge deal with Boston, but he seemed to to a certain extent and shouldn't have been an age thing, not when the guy was pounding the ball like he did at Petco and still only 31. I always figured BJ Upton would hit the skids as a FA, that was different, he was mailing it in sometimes before he even became a FA. You can tell players and GM's we all know have their own game on who will work out and try harder.. The Pedroia's, Lackey's, vs the Beckett's and Matt Young's of the world.

It's long been my view that JBJ gets his front foot down a little late ... he's better now than my memory of him in Salem, but I still think it's a little late. I suspect that may make it tough for him to clear out inside pitches because he's not set early enough.
But then, this could easily be a case of confirmation bias on my part, I fully admit.
Also, if it was 1949 the last time the Yankees lost back-to-back games in which they scored 8+ runs, I wonder how long it has been since they lost three of them in a row.

MLB network was saying that the three losses AT YANKEE STADIUM (err actually at home) where they scored more then 8+ runs in each was a new high RECORD. go stinkiest ones of all time!

Remember, Sebathia figured out Bradley in the first game of the season. He has trouble with inside pitches, particularly breaking balls. His swings today looked awkward. He doesn't appear to be ready for the big time, yet. And that is very unfortunate.

Or, you know, it could be that major shoulder injury he suffered. Also, age-related decline absolutely does kick in by age 31.

I can't buy that JMEI. The plate discipline and power went down at the age of 29. He never had protection at SD, at Boston he had guys in front of him and behind him.
The shoulder injury? That was winter of the trade, age 28 season and his best with Boston, so have to toss that out.. It is really odd that someone, in their prime that never figured would go that way did.

The popular hypothesis is that his plate discipline in San Diego was artificially boosted by the terrible lineup around him. That first year's line just looked good because of BABIP-- his power had already begun to drop IIRC.

He doesn't appear to be ready for the big time, yet. And that is very unfortunate. You know, 1-4 with a walk really isn't that bad. He hasn't ever really been given an extended chance to play in the bigs and he was very recently playing well at Pawtucket.

We watched him turn on a fastball and hit it out earlier in the year, the last time he was called up. He did the same today on the shot he hit down to first base. What he needs is playing time. He may get it if Ellsbury is hurt again.

Rays lose! Sox up 8.5 in the division.

What is remarkable is that even if the Sox hadn't had some fortunate things go their way in the last week, they'd still have massive control of the division. Tampa is putrid right now. But a 1 game playoff with Price or Moore would be hard to turn down if ur Tampa right now

Whats the rotation looking like for the Rays series? If we can get 2 wins there we're looking very good.

Whats the rotation looking like for the Rays series? If we can get 2 wins there we're looking very good. With an 8.5 game lead with 18 games left, I think we're already looking very good. Tampa needs to sweep or they're done. We haven't announced our rotation, but this is a safe guess. Buchholz (4 days rest) vs. Price Peavy (5) vs. Cobb Lackey (4) or Doubront (5) vs. Hellickson Skipping Doubront would set up Lester (4), Doubront (7), Buchholz (4) vs. the Yankees over the weekend, rather than Lackey (5), Lester (5), Buchholz (4). So the question is whether giving Doubront three extra days of rest would be more beneficial than giving Doubront, Lackey, and Lester one extra day each. Note that with two more Mondays off, they will have other chances to give guys one extra day.
