I been talking up the idea of acquiring Castro for some time now. He is a good player on both sides of the ball and is young. The Astros are a re-building team and will trade him for the right amount of talent and I dont think its as much as some may think. There gm is smart an has made some great trades, even if mostly smaller ones. The Stros GM has known to make some young player for young player moves/ prospect for prospect moves. I dont no what he would be looking for in a trade but lets assume a C, SP and IF/OF. Mookie Betts, A-Ranuado and Vazquez or Ranuado, Swihart and Brentz one of those would certainly get there attention and be a fair deal value wise. The first one is alot to give up and even the second one but Id with out a doubt be very searious about making one of those deals. Hes a guy who hasnt entered his prime and would be under team control a couple more years. He can defend and handle a pitching staff very well. He can hit with good power. He also has one good year under his belt and trouble with health in the past. I have heard there are concerns over his knees for a C especially that is very worrisome.
Jonathan Lucroy imo is another very underrated C who can do a whole lot with the bat and play good D. He may not cost as much and be more available. Id love to get my hands on him also.

I think Castro is exactly the type of player that Houston won't trade away unless they're blown away. He's a good, young catcher and they can easily afford him. Also, if I'm not mistaken; he's only arb1 right now.

Touched it up a bit. Good points. But I wonder that, if we acquire Castro, will it set back Vasquez and/or Swihart if they are not included?

I know the Angels have been looking for young pitching, and we match up well with them in that regard. I don't think we should be looking to aquire Trumbo from them, but what do people think it would take to pry Hank Conger away from them? Good young, switch hitting catcher, plus I think Swihart may end up moving out from behind the plate eventually, unless he can bulk up quite a bit. Could be a good match with Ross for a year, then with Vasquez. Would he be worth giving up a solid young starter or perhaps a veteran like Peavy, plus a prospect?

He hit very well in the minors, mainly against RHPs, but he's yet to put together an impressive offensive showing in the majors. Also, all indications are that he's a below average to terrible receiver. Steamer projects him to be a 2.1 WAR, 96 wRC+ player next season. He'll only be 26, and I think there's a good chance he surpasses those offensive predictions, but I'd still be cautious. I'm inclined to pursue Hanigan and Salty before targeting Conger, especially if he's going require giving up a Peavy or Workman type + another prospect (I know we can afford to move a starter, but I don't see Conger being a great way to do it).

Just to amend my comments on his defense, he has ranked as one of the better pitch framers.
