Over the last few days there has been a lot of back and forth on two players specifically - Shin Soo Choo and Stephen Drew. It seems that some people are trying to force others into two groups - either for signing the player or against - but it really isn't that simple. I'd like for everyone to go on the record with simple "Yes" or "No" answers.

I'm with you completely on every choice - the only one that gave me hesitation is whether to go a third year on Drew. Going over $100 million on Choo just strikes me as a move everyone will seriously regret only a few years into the deal. |

No on the Drew options. I'd sign him for cheaper though.
No on Choo. I don't love the fit at all such that his price would have to come way down.

No to all those options, I'd do a Choo deal at, say 5/90. but I doubt he drops that far.

Drew all depends on a trade for WMB. Going to 3 years on Drew would probably mean they have a damn good deal lined up that includes WMB and needed to close Drew's negotiations on a timeline to get the trade done.
If the price for Choo drops low enough to consider, a team like Seattle or Houston will most likely jump slightly before Boston for this years Bourn.

I'd go with what Soxcentral posted. I'd take a shot at Choo for 5 years, $90 million or forget about it. I like Drew, but it's time for the Red Sox to give WMB a full shot at 3b and turn SS over to Bogaerts. The signing of Drew would necessitate a Dempster deal, not that I have a problem with that, but I'd prefer to see that savings go towards a July 31st deal if the Sox need to take on a contract for to fill a need to be determined.

I didn't want to give Victorino his deal either, but everyone knew Ellsbury was departing so it answered some immediate and future questions.
I don't like the state of RS OF prospects and 2015 FA's aren't particularly good. It's a moot point since Choo is going to get more than 5 y's. We know it's not great value but I just don't see really good alternatives out there. So I might cave and do this deal if RS had the chance.

Just say no on both. I doubt Scott Boras would give the Red sox another discount special for 2nd time on Drew. I'd take Choo for less than 100 mil. I don't think both will sign below 4 figure lines from above.
