Over the last few days there has been a lot of back and forth on two players specifically - Shin Soo Choo and Stephen Drew. It seems that some people are trying to force others into two groups - either for signing the player or against - but it really isn't that simple. I'd like for everyone to go on the record with simple "Yes" or "No" answers. Would you sign Stephen Drew for... ... 1 year, $14 Million: ... 2 years, $27 Million: ... 3 years, $39 Million: ... 4 years, $52 Million: Would you sign Shin Soo Choo for... ...5 years, $100 Million: ...6 years, $120 Million: ...7 years, $126 Million: ...7 years, $140 Million: Again, just yes or no for this thread. The conversation can go in the appropriate threads. No to all

Yes to 1-2 years on Drew only.
That contract would be very tradable.

No to both. I'm ready to roll with Xander at shortstop. We have a back-up now. Don't want that much money tied up in Choo. A couple of long-term contracts have worked. Very elite talent. Derek Jeter, Manny Ramirez, Mike Mussina and I would even argue A-Rod's first 10 years once he signed the Texas contract weren't a bad deal for an elite player. The Yanks idiotically re-upped him for another 10 after he opted out 7 years into the first deal. Choo just doesn't strike me as having the body-type that will look good in 5-7 years.

Drew is a solid No, roll with Xander at SS, and WMB at 3B this year, if WMB does not make the necessary adjustments, Cechhini should be ready by 2015 (if not sooner).
Wouldn't hate signing Choo, but just don't see him as a $20M per year level player, so No.
Best case scenario, WMB is healthy enough and makes enough improvement with his approach next season to solidify his status as Sox 3B for years to come, and makes Cechhini a corner OF whose offensive game profiles very favorably to Choo.

Thanks jmei.
I'm specifically interested in the opinions of those that have been involved in the conversations, so it's good to see where you stand.
I'm looking forward to moonstone2 and Lavarnway giving there input.

I would pretend to be interested in Drew as a favor to drive up his market.

I would pretend to be interested in Drew as a favor to drive up his market. I thought it was obvious that this is what the Sox were doing... at least I hope they are. It is in their best interest to have him sign elsewhere and they should do everything they can to help facilitate this.

If we were to assume we would be going over the luxury tax threshhold from any of these options it probably would change a lot of answers, including maybe even mine. In a pre Napoli world, the above would have been my answer.

Note: all discussion of the Choo signing and its consequences has been moved to the Throwdown Subforum in a thread entitled "Aftermath of the Choo signing."
Enjoy (and keep it off the main board).
