Doesn't sound too good for Moore: The article notes the choice as "primarily between using reliever Cesar Ramos or calling up veteran Erik Bedard from Triple A to take Moore's rotation spot." So, yeah, not real good for the Rays.

Sliding head first into first drives me crazy, and Hamilton's remarks that it was instinct is bull. Human instinct doesn't involve running full speed, diving into a fixed object, with a 200 pound guy wearing steel spikes stepping in the same area. Instinct is running from danger, drinking when thirsty, looking for food when hungry. Maybe teams should start hitting guys in the wallet who do it. All the studies and instruction from coaches that you don't get there faster don't seem to be working. Even smart baseball guys like Dustin do it.

One thing extreme parks and leagues can do is effect placement. Teams might not send pitchers to the Cal league and thus are force to place the player at a sub-optimal level.
Take Braden Shipley for example. He's not quite ready for AA but the Snakes High-A team is in the Cal league. Rather than placing him in high A, they are putting him in low A so that he can avoid the Cal league and go to AA when he's ready.
That's not optimal and thus can harm a player's development.

Avisail Garcia out for the year (torn labrum).

Sean McAdam ?@sean_McAdam 7m Who would have guessed in 3-team deal last July that Peavy would be healthies in '14? Both Iglesias and Garcia now out for season.

I'd offer that albeit a long time ago, in a galaxy far away, most players sliding into 1st base were doing so to avoid a tag when the 1st baseman was pulled off the bag.

Evan Drellich ? evandrellich 4m Source tells the Chronicle that George Springer is on his way to the majors tomorrow. Very exciting. The strikeouts are a rather large concern, but he's otherwise absolutely torched through AA and AAA since the beginning of 2013.

Does the # of days down this season constitue using an option for 2014? Actually, scratch that (post deleted). I don't believe he's used any options yet since he wasn't on the 40-man like I thought.

I ask because I wonder if they barely made the minimum # of days to gain that extra year of service.

Yankees win 3-0. Tanaka a 2 hit 10 strikeout performance thru 8. Looking bad for us at the moment. CC is their worst starting pitcher.
