I ask because I wonder if they barely made the minimum # of days to gain that extra year of service. Just FYI, options and service time are different things. He won't use an option this year if he stays up. Not sure if he was down long enough that they get another year of control.

Options probably aren't an issue for him.

I believe he was down long enough to get the extra year of control, but I doubt he will avoid super two.

Good point Chris, I too often think of a player being optioned to the minors in spring training, but that wasn't the case here. I looked it up: a player needs at least 172 days on the major league roster to accrue a year of service. Since there's about 183 days during a season it looks like the team just gained that extra year of control. I agree with Chavo that there's no way he avoids Super Two status. That cutoff is usually in early June.

So Scott Cousins - released by the Sox on April 2 - is making the switch from outfielder to pitcher with the Rangers. EDIT: JJ Cooper ?@jjcoop36 Apr 15 Stat that jumps out, Gregory Polanco has swung and missed 6 times in 170 pitches this year. One was to protect a base-stealer. Wow. Can't wait to see him in RF in Pittsburgh.

So what is the count now on ex-Red Sox minor leaguers the Rangers have tried to convert to pitchers?

Another horrible call by an umpire on a transfer play during the Cards vs Nats tonight. No Challenge by Williams as he probably knows that the replay officials won't overall the umpire.

Thanks for posting. I moved it into this thread because it's an important story, one that everyone should read if they can. ESPN's investigative unit is, in my opinion, the best in all of sports. The involvement of los Zetas alone is enough to make the hair on the back of my neck stand up. It was to be expected that, with all the money involved, the cartels would have their hand in it. It makes the age scams that became so common in the DR look like child's play by comparison. Add: Here's the full story from ESPN Magazine.

Add Gerrit Cole's name to the list of over-sensitive major league pitchers.

Add Gerrit Cole's name to the list of over-sensitive major league pitchers. Yeah, what the hell was that about? I actually believe he threw a hissy fit because his stuff sucked.

Remember that guy who threw 127 pitches against the Red Sox last week, goes by the name of Chris Sale? Yeah, he's on the 15-day DL now. I'm sure it has nothing whatsoever to do with throwing 127 pitches in a game though.
