“@mlbbowman: Mike Minor is a few weeks behind because he had to rest for a month after undergoing a 12/31 procedure to repair scarring around his urethra” ... That hurts just to read it Why is this even public knowledge?

Home plate collisions are stupid, unnecessary, dangerous, and don't add anything to the game. People threw a nutty when Albert Belle leveled Fernando Vina, but if he'd done the same thing two bases later, it would be a sign of hustle. What crud.

They should just outlaw the Pete Rose barreling over the catcher move when the ball beats the runner by 15 feet. Like the two plays Ross was involved in against the Tigers. That should pretty much take care of it. This instant replay rule to determine if a catchers leg was too close to the base path a millisecond before the ball gets there is going to get ugly and annoying. Probably won't happen often, but imagine borderline calls getting reviewed in extra innings of a playoff game. I'd guarantee there will be outrage over some of these judgment calls, especially before they even know what they're doing.

That should pretty much take care of it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only real reviewable question is whether the catcher has the ball before any physical contact occurs. I much prefer that concrete yes/no question to a rule that forces an umpire to make an non-reviewable judgment call as to whether the runner was obviously out or not. How do you even set up that rule in a coherent way? Not to mention that such a rule wouldn't really protect runners and catchers, which I agree should absolutely be a priority (players doesn't sell tickets on the DL, after all).

I'm not even sure why this was even this difficult for MLB to figure out. Just adopt the same rules for plays at the plate that exist at every other level of baseball, and you're good.

In this day and age, still surprising some people still don't get public and private and how to keep certain things private and what those things are that should be kept private.

Porn is a huge industry; Matheney probably watches porn from time to time just like the rest of us. Sometimes the soap opera that sports news has become disgusts me. How awesome would it have been though if Matheney's comments were: "I reviewed the material in question and everything looks good to me (wink)."

The fact Deadspin looks for crap like this and reports it when they find it is a joke and the fact someone finds the need to bring it to a forum is equally disturbing. It's irrelevant trash.

Drew Sutton retired. Which is unfortunate. Had he signed with the Yankees, he would have been their best ss.
