He's done it a few times since moving off to Oakland. He's a very, very, good outfielder with tremendous anticipation and coordination, and a cannon arm. I think we knew that when he was with Boston.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that David Wright did not actually beat Eric Sogard for #FaceofMLB 51 to 49.

This whole story is beyond dumb, but apparently a lot of some people cared....especially Joey Bats Bautista, who started following 175,00 fans to campaign Face of MLB But since it did actually happen...I liked this guys rationale....

Word of advice, in Facebook, never tag anyone in a photo who has more than 1000 "friends" (LOL, my wife).

Or Sanjaya if you remember the absolutely terrible American Idol contestant who finished way too high one season - also because of Howard Stern listeners.

I voted for Jose Bautista because he played for Licey in DR and is a Liceysta but I was pulling for Ball Sogard all the way. It would have been the perfect ending.

Tough break for Minnesota as Miguel Sano will undergo TJ surgery. Tough break. Was really looking forward to seeing how he'd do this year. He had no shortage of confidence (“I hit 45 this year. More games,” he said. “Maybe 55, you never know.”; link). With Mauer settling in at first base, I wonder if Sano will stick at third, which was already in question before the elbow injury.

There were hints of this from a few months ago, and here it is. The metrics are the ones scouts have long eyeballed - positioning, first step, route. Looks like they've put all that together in a tight package.

Bad news. Each game is 7TB. Yes TB. So in order for it to be usable by the public the size will need to shrink. Or make it searchable

The additions will make for some spectacular stuff. Who knows how long it will take until it can be implemented smoothly, but it's an awesome tool. This type of stuff will hopefully help advanced fielding stats, which is clearly a ways behind most everything else

That's a whole new ballgame and this should be very interesting. They should call it scout.

Wow, route efficiency. I love it. Assuming there must be the same stat for defensive players. Be cool to objectively tell who gets the best breaks on flyballs.
EDIT: should really read the article first I guess. This is exactly what they have.

huge break for the Twins getting this done before the kid is on the 40-man, right?

huge break for the Twins getting this done before the kid is on the 40-man, right? He sustained a season-ending injury before the season even started that will cause him to miss an important developmental year and also decreases the likelihood that he sticks at third base. There is no way this can be spun as a good thing.

I could be wrong about this, but I believe if he is on the 40-man and hurt in big league camp he has to go on the major league DL and lose a year of service time.
