Yesterday's Globe carried a downer story about Jared Remy which doesn't make the parents look very good here. "Last August, after Jared Remy allegedly assaulted Martel, slamming her against a bathroom mirror, Martel spent the night at Hill’s apartment next door. Hill said she encouraged Martel to go to court the next morning to extend an emergency restraining order against Remy. But Martel told her that she had promised the Remys she would stay home, Hill said. In his statement, Jerry Remy said the family did not discourage Martel in any way from extending the restraining order. Whatever the reason, Martel did not go to court, and Jared was released. Prosecutors later acknowledged they put too much stock in Martel’s absence. The next night, she was dead." www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2014/03/2...eKgK/story.htmlGreat parenting and now she's dead and if you read the story, she wasn't the first to die... I'm going to think about this every time I hear Jerry. Hopefully, he'll do the right thing here.

At first I was ok with him coming back but after reading this article I don't think I'll be able to listen to a game with him on it. I know nothing has been proven or anything but he and his family don't come off well here, specially with the suggestion they may have discourage Martel from going to court. Really sickening.

I'm not one who's going to think of the murder when listening to a broadcast so it's not going to affect me any, but if it affects other viewers then that's something NESN needs to consider.
I think it's a bit unfair to make a leap (not that posters have yet) that Remy talking her out if appearing in court ( if at all true) had anything to do with her getting murdered. It was only for a restraining order, he would not have gone to jail that day. If he was that pissed off that she didn't go to court and killed her, do you really think her showing up would have done anything to stop this?

Jerry and/or his wife also left the child alone with Jared when they had court ordered Grandparent supervised visits...it's not a huge crime or anything, but calling them enablers is as kind as possible. Ignoring this awful story, I haven't been a fan of Remy in years...he openly talks about how he doesn't watch baseball except for his paid job and he's clueless about advanced statistics and prospects in the system. People always cite his "great" chemistry with Don but I feel like the fill in replacements have shown similar chemistry too. He's certainly not the worst announcer, he's just thoroughly mediocre and replaceable, I don't think he's earned the right to do this job for as long he decides. I absolutely love Eck doing the games too but I know that's a less popular opinion, I'd be happy with any number of replacements.

Eck is the best. How can you not love a guy who flat out calls a player "an out"?

Love the Eck. I was disappointed when Remy came back last year. Not piling on here because of the circumstances but he is fun to have in the booth. The Remy situation is depressing. Not everybody who can have kids should have kids. From the results it sure seems like he was not a good parent. That he doesn't seem to want to bow out is disappointing.

The last thing I want to do is defend this scum bag, but my guess is he's a target in prison and the fact he assaulted someone there could just as easily be self defense/ preservation as anything else. He's in a bad place, the rules are different there and survival is the name of the game.
