Wow Mujica is nasty.

Palmer called that Mujica's "dancing splitter"...
Add: ...and he likes the Sox' bullpen in general.

See, splitters are awesome. Mujica's has more horizontal action than, say, Uehara's, but that late life is nasty however it moves. Seriously, Hazen needs to make it a pitch of emphasis down on the farm.

Love the way AJ jumps on the first pitch and drives it, even if it's a little out of the zone. Good aggressive hitting, none of this "working the count" passivity.
edit: OK, I was just joking ... but what the hell was AJ doing there to get doubled up? That was always going to be caught.

Funny, you knew Napoli would do it. He was just under it his previous abats as Sixemore was a tad under it his last abat. A.J. is not use to be being on base. This guy may be fun.

I've got to admit, that was horrible base running by Pierzynsky. I want to at least give him a few weeks before jumping on the train though.

It will be very interesting to see if Peavy was able to pick up a good splitter from Koji. He threw it something like 20 times one spring training game. That is pretty serious practise. If he can get a decent splitter it could change his career. Make him worth another great contract.

You know, Nava's not a good rightfielder, but he really isn't that bad out there ...

Ah, I've missed Koji ... he's such a fun guy to watch pitch and then walk around happy after a win.

Well played game by the Sox. Great pitching. The no walk bullpen trio of Mujica, Tazawa, and Koji looked great. First of hopefully many, many wins this season.

What is a fair amount of time before we give on WMB?
Cause it's early, but he seems to have learned absolutely nothing.

Well his first at bat of the season, which was all of two days ago, he took a called third strike BELOW his knees. Give him a chance, he is going to start all year and wind up with average over 260 and 25+ HR.

I hope there's plenty more where this one came from.
* Nice start by Lackey * Strong mid-in relief * Didn't miss a served meatball: Ortiz and Napoli * Terrific up the middle D by Pedroia

But, man, his penchant for swinging at sliders out of the zone and staring at fastballs down the middle reminds me a lot of Frenchy (shudder). People used to attack Francouer, claiming that he didn't work hard enough on his discipline; but I think the truth is, he just didn't have the ability to tell a strike from a ball so he just had to be a complete guess hitter like Wily Mo Pena. Let's hope Middlebrooks doesn't turn out like them.

The no walk bullpen trio of Mujica, Tazawa, and Koji looked great. ...and totally wasted on this 4-run lead. OK, Mujica was warming when it was only 2 runs, fine, but then do something else for 8th and 9th please. I would rather see Koji pitch 2 innings in some close games.

Trouble is Farrell would do exactly the same thing in the 140th game of the season.

Great to see Lackey get some run support. Other than that 4th inning, he looked pretty damn great. I think we really need him to be the same pitcher he was last season.

WMB needs to get it going. I hope this early season slump doesn't screw him up mentally into a free fall.

If he keeps up this -60 OPS+ I don't think he'll have a good season.

If he keeps up this -60 OPS+ I don't think he'll have a good season. If JBJ keeps sitting on the bench like this, he's not going to have a very good season either. Seriously, it's a 2 game sample. David Ortiz had 12 samples of 2 consecutive games without a hit last season, yet somehow his season was quite OK overall. So chill out.
