I know some of you love this stuff, and while I don't necessarily want to revive the "do wins and losses matter in the minors" argument until we have something to compare these to, they're interesting to look at if nothing else: www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/2012/09/2012-organization-standings-league-champs/Sox come in 17th at a .504 winning percentage, with a league champ and a runner up which is on the higher end of orgs with top two finishers.

Actually, let's revive that with this. Let's compare last year's org standings with the org rankings coming into this year. We'll use BA's rankings. 2011 final standings: Link(Talent ranking entering this year in parens) 1. Rangers (1) 2. Giants (22) 3. Dodgers (24) 4. Blue Jays (5) 5. A's (7) 6. Cards (10) T7. Phillies (27) T7. Pads (3) 9. Indians (29) 10. Nationals (12) 11. Mets (25) 12. Marlins (28) 13. Yankees (13) 14. Cubs (14) 15. Reds (16) T16. Pirates (11) T16. DBacks (4) 18. White Sox (30) 19. Rays (8) 20. Red Sox (9) 21 Rockies (17) 22. Angels (19) 23. Tigers (23) 24. Royals (2) 25. Twins (20) 26. O's (21) 27. Braves (15) 28. M's (6) 29. Brewers (26) 30. Astros (18) To look at this another way, here's the list for talent rankings entering this season: Link(Standing in parens) 1. Texas Rangers (1) 2. Kansas City Royals (24) 3. San Diego Padres (T7) 4. Arizona Diamondbacks (T16) 5. Toronto Blue Jays (4) 6. Seattle Mariners (28) 7. Oakland Athletics (5) 8. Tampa Bay Rays (19) 9. Boston Red Sox (20) 10. St. Louis Cardinals (6) 11. Pittsburgh Pirates (T16) 12. Washington Nationals (10) 13. New York Yankees (13) 14. Chicago Cubs (14) 15. Atlanta Braves (27) 16. Cincinnati Reds (15) 17. Colorado Rockies (21) 18. Houston Astros (30) 19. Los Angeles Angels (22) 20. Minnesota Twins (25) 21. Baltimore Orioles (26) 22. San Francisco Giants (2) 23. Detroit Tigers (23) 24. Los Angeles Dodgers (3) 25. New York Mets (11) 26. Milwaukee Brewers (29) 27. Philadelphia Phillies (T7) 28. Miami Marlins (12) 29. Cleveland Indians (9) 30. Chicago White Sox (18) Can we agree that those are relatively randomized and that that there's not much correlation between the two? Rangers top both, but teams like the Giants and Dodgers were in the bottom third in talent rankings and were top 3 in org record. Royals, meanwhile, had great talent but a poor W-L record. Funny, it does kind of seem like the middling teams were so in both lists.
