It should be noted that Marrero is only seven months younger than Iglesias and is already a far better hitter than Jose although I can't really say that he's mastered the swinging bunt. There is no doubt that Marrero is a very good defender at SS. But he just doesn't have the flair that made Iggy so fun to watch. LOL, agree in a weird twisted way. Dependability and the propensity to make almost everything look routine isn't exciting. It's like grounder to the left side, time to change channels.

Iglesias hit .295/.339/.379 for Portland as a 20 year old, so he wasn't exactly a chump there. So I don't necessarily agree with the stance than Marrero is already the better hitter. And, while Marrero is quite good with the glove, he isn't Iglesias. That dude's hands are/were like lightning.

Even MiLB is calling it Jeter-like so I'm not going to post the idiotic tweet but, here's the play: . . After further review, not so idiotic: . MiLB.com ?@milb 59m MUST-SEE MiLB.TV: #RedSox No. 13 prospect @dmarrero17 shows great range, makes Jeter-like throw for @portlandseadogs. atmilb.com/1lSBxYa. But it was Jeter-like because it was a jump-throw. That's Jeter's signature move on balls hit 1-2 steps to his right.

Marrero does not have better range. He may have a stronger arm, but Iglesias' quicker release and ability to throw from silly angles makes up for that difference.

Marrero seems more like JBJ in that he's not flashy and won't show up in highlights often, but makes the tough plays seem routine. I don't know where Iglesias ranks, but he's made several of the "best SS plays I've ever seen" already.
I am very, very hopeful that Marrero's bat comes together and he pushes Xander over to 3rd. I'm a sucker for defense.

Ah, better than Jeter as it was more than a hop n skip... that was more like the Nomar plays of old.
