It should be noted that Marrero is only seven months younger than Iglesias and is already a far better hitter than Jose although I can't really say that he's mastered the swinging bunt. There is no doubt that Marrero is a very good defender at SS. But he just doesn't have the flair that made Iggy so fun to watch. LOL, agree in a weird twisted way. Dependability and the propensity to make almost everything look routine isn't exciting. It's like grounder to the left side, time to change channels. |

Iglesias hit .295/.339/.379 for Portland as a 20 year old, so he wasn't exactly a chump there. So I don't necessarily agree with the stance than Marrero is already the better hitter. And, while Marrero is quite good with the glove, he isn't Iglesias. That dude's hands are/were like lightning.

Marrero does not have better range. He may have a stronger arm, but Iglesias' quicker release and ability to throw from silly angles makes up for that difference. |

Marrero seems more like JBJ in that he's not flashy and won't show up in highlights often, but makes the tough plays seem routine. I don't know where Iglesias ranks, but he's made several of the "best SS plays I've ever seen" already.
I am very, very hopeful that Marrero's bat comes together and he pushes Xander over to 3rd. I'm a sucker for defense.
