If you read what he literally typed out, he did say - with poor grammar - that a Boston deal was going to be done soon. But if you think about it, he apparently forgot a period. He was saying he thought Boston was the only team that could meet the asking price. Full stop. And that a deal would be done soon. Poor grammar may have something to do with the various misinterpretations of what the guy posted on Twitter. But it's straining credulity for him to claim that he didn't say or mean a deal was "imminent" but was merely "going to be done soon" when "imminent" quite literally means "happening very soon." www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/imminent

This is so bogus on so many levels. If you look into the guy's twitter a little more closely his only sources are "two guys in Pittsburgh's front office.", nobody with the Cubs or Red Sox. When someone asks him if it'll be done this month he declines to answer and says, "it's extremely close."
Also, just circumstantially, everything the guy is saying is nonsense. The Red Sox are not the only team with the prospects to get him. Samardzjia's value has not gone up since spring training, if anything it's gone down because that's two fewer months of control. And how many trades of this magnitude happen in May or June? I guarantee within 24 hours Robothal or Heyman will shoot this down (if they even consider it worth their time).

He has a 1.46 ERA as compared to 4.34 last year. Clearly his value has gone up.

A few things.
The main competition in the stud starter trade market have had their stock drop considerably. Sale with a long DL for sore elbow and Price who the Red Sox could hit this year.
About a day before these tweets Heyman had an article about the market for the Cubs and named the 10 teams most likely. Within 8 hours Olney had a tweet about the Blue Jays interest.
The tweeter has a position with MLB.com and it wouldn't be unrealistic to think that there's the possibility of a three way trade since the Pirates also have a strong system with pitching depth which will be what the Cubs will be looking for. I think it's pretty much no secret that Ben and the Pirates have about the same relationship that Theo used to have with the Padres. The Ben and Theo connection also shouldn't have escaped notice.
The Cubs are 10.5 games out but since the article first appeared, the Sox have become 6.5 games out so that's a potential killer, the Sox need to decide if they are going for it or not.
Any trade for a starter with the Sox will be tricky because we have no options in our rotation, a Red Sox starter pretty much has to be included. Also likely is that we wouldn't take on much salary this year. Samardzija makes $5.25m.

The tweeter has a position with MLB.com . A nice way of saying he's a glorified intern (no offense to the kid). I mean this didn't even make MLBTR and they'll post anything.

True but making stuff up is not their usual M.O.. If he was a talk show or yellow news guy I'd dismiss it. Either way, at the rate the Sox have fallen apart since the story, I'm not so sure the Sox will be looking to buy a 1 1/2 year rental. They are approaching the sell part of that category. The problem is compounded by the fact that winning the division is more likely than getting a wild card slot.

Last I checked, most of this thread isn't news, so I'm locking it.
