It seems that Myers is the fall guy quite often in these series. Ending up with the classic expression on his face as he experiences the rivalry first hand.

Gordon Edes ?@gordonedes 3m Farrell says Pedroia bruised his right hand taking throw at second base. Bruised. More tests expected.
Hmm. Pedey's a small guy and all, but a hard throw into his glove can't possibly lead to a significant injury for him, can it?

Maddon: "I'm a big believer in the players' ability to police the game on their own."
Such utter BS. This hasn't been true for years. Joe's mind is living in a different era. Obviously.

ability to police the game on their own." Rays/Maddon judgement is so good.....why would we question anything they do?
Myers is going to carry this with him every time he's running something down. 'Am I going to be undercut?'

why the hell was Gomes in there? I mean really. Ugh - I meant Pierzynski. But I guess Ross can't catch up with 97 mph. Prescient in a very twisted way. You did get those questions answered, right? Add: If Randy Marsh has any nuts he'll pull those umps into his office and slap the s**t out of them. Ask yourself if this is any way to run a business in the age of hyper-consciousness about concussions. I swear the lunatics are running the asylum in MLB headquarters. Add 2: Very cute to see Maddon sucking up to the umps in the press conference, for all the good it will do him unless the ump police are braindead. Major f**k up to let any game get this out of hand. Coming to you from the great northwest

Last year Lackey hit Joyce after he hit HR. Then Maddon criticized severely Lackey. Now Maddon becomes different person?

Sooo. Tomorrow, RDLR needs to hit somebody first so that he gets a warning even if the umps think it's intentional ? Yup they made that pretty clear. Basically you should always hit someone intentionally in the top of the first to protect your own guys from getting hit.

The Rays announcers were saying that Price hit Ortiz because Papi "pimped" HRs in the playoffs last year, including against Price. Ortiz clearly believes the same when he says, "first time he faces me all year ... "
How can anyone stand the Rays? You know, their fans suck and their city sucks and their stadium sucks, so therefore everything they do is plucky and every decision Maddon makes is genius because small market! Just insufferable.
Oh, and one-run win, baby! Woo-hoo!

I'm actually a little worried about De La Rosa today. While I really like his stuff, his control can get a little wonky, especially before he settles into a groove. I'd hate for him to either accidentally incite a brawl and get suspended, but I also don't want him to be overly conscious of not hitting people and start aiming the ball over the plate. Not a great situation to be making his first start in three years.

I'm guessing that they will pre-warn the game. That takes the option out of RDLR's hands but it also leaves this pot simmering.

Not a shortstop, poor range and instincts, can't go left, etc. They know who they are. Missed the festivities last night. No surprise coming from the Tampa Devils. Let's keep it rollin

Last year Lackey hit Joyce after he hit HR. Then Maddon criticized severely Lackey. Now Maddon becomes different person? Yep, very true. I understand what Price was doing by hitting Ortiz. And I think the umpires screwed up at that point. Price should have been ejected right there and then, instead of this warning crap. Price intentionally threw at Ortiz, end of story, he should have been tossed from the game. The umpires are solely to blame for that game getting out of hand.

Bad job overall by MLB and the umpiring crew last night. The teams should have been warned prior to the game that apparent attempts to hit a batter will be cause for immediate ejections of the pitcher and manager. The crew chief 's comments to the pool reporter placing blame on the Red Sox getting hot during the game speaks volume of how much the umpires lost control. I suspect that both teams will be warned prior to tonight's game but it still will not be settled until the platters throw down which will likely happen tonight.

Here's a piece in the Globe on Maddon blasting Lackey: But, you know, it's ok for Maddon to be a total hypocrite because small market. edit to add: the "it wasn't intentional to hit Carp" defense is total BS. He clearly hit Ortiz, so he basically loses the inside pitch for the rest of the game, in my mind, if he stays in the game at all, that is.

I think both teams will want to postpone until a different day. Take it as a seminal moment in the season and ride it to a sweep.

I'd 100% completely agree with if it wasn't dlr first start in 2 years.. I don't want him out there thinking about the rivalry or worrying about his command with warnings or whatever. Go out there and get outs. Good news is he will probably hit a few batters anyway. The fireworks are scheduled for Sunday. I do think it is rediculous that price wasn't ejected in the 4th WHEN 4 red sox had such short leashes. There is no consistency there. If you plunk soneone intentionally You lose something on the Inside Im surprised gomes didn't make a bigger deal about getting hit. We know it was accidential but he's been looking for.a fight for a week now. Sent from a very cracked iPhone.

Honestly I have no idea what all this warning crap is supposed to achieve. If someone throws at a guy intentionally, just toss him, warning or no warning.
