I think there are very good arguments on both sides, I just think a lot of people aren't recognizing there are valid points on both sides of the issue. That is all.

Peavy is the last guy who should be talking about money and performance.

Peavy is the last guy who should be talking about money and performance. Agreed...but the clubhouse is a fraternal organization..and it could very well be that Peavy was the proxy for Lester here.

You know damn well the pitchers talk about it amongst each other. I'm sure they discuss Lackey's upcoming 500k option for next year too.

Mookie's in right tonight, and we know Holt is not sitting.
So, what's SS and 3B? You'd have to think that sitting Xander to make room for Mookie would strike everyone as f'ed up, so Drew obviously gets to rest his 1/32-ness.
So the question is, do they stubbornly keep Xander at 3B and have Holt make his 2014 SS debut? Or do they go with Xander at SS and Holt at 3B, like they've done twenty times already this year? Including wins in the last six straight.
We shall see.

I'll bet he plays 3b tonight. Xander sits. Herrera gets sent down when Carp is called up. I think we'll see Xander at SS against lefties.

Drew needs to sit out period, put Xander where he belongs and Holt at 3rd. Let Mookie, Bradley and Nava roam the outfield. Drew needs to be release or traded, either way that money is a waste, such an overrated player. Let Xander play where he always wanted to play without having to look over his shoulder. I bet Xander is wondering the same thing too, why is this bum playing over me?

Holt 3B Nava LF Pedroia 2B Ortiz DH Napoli 1B Pierzynski C Drew SS Betts RF Bradley Jr. CF OK, Whitley has been death on RHB (.224 / .274 / .269) and been killed by LHB (.317 / .355 / .465). So Drew over Xander is actually defensible. I just want to see X pinch-hit if Drew is facing Thornton or Huff.

JF actually PH Nava for Gomes in the 5th inning the other day, so there may be some hope there.

Alright, I tried to be reasonable about this, but I'm done. Get Drew off this damn team or demote him to a utility role. What a disaster of a move this turned into. He's now taking playing time from Bogaerts because the latter is having a bad month? Front office should be embarrassed.

I have no real issue with tonight, because X is scuffling and it might do some good to sit him every now and then and let him watch and learn. Also, the lefty/righty splits for tonight's starter are significant. However, if these becomes a consistent thing I am right with you. Now that Mookie and X and JBJ are all up on the big club and with Holt playing the way he is, Drew belongs on the bench for the majority of these games.

I think play and learn works better than watch and learn in baseball.

No Xander? one less reason to watch this game. Even though is Mookies debut so I guess I'll watch it.

The look on Tanaka's face after Napoli went deep was priceless. Uehara slamming the door was sweet. Let's do it again, gentlemen.

I think play and learn works better than watch and learn in baseball. I think the mental break can help a young player.

Just a heads up guys: for as bad as Drew has been with the bat since coming back (same thing he did in the first month last year without spring training, be patient), Bogaerts has been worse. Hitting .113 in his last 80 at bats (will be fine, just a 21 year old in the grind of the season, also be patient).

I think play and learn works better than watch and learn in baseball. If he is going to start missing a couple games a week I'd agree with this, but a day off every once in a blue moon never hurt anyone....especially when you are young and struggling. To reiterate what Jimed said, he might be able to use a mental break too, sometimes a little time off can do wonders for struggling professional athletes.

I think play and learn works better than watch and learn in baseball. Yeah there's no reason why a struggling player might ever need a night off.

Enough with the squabbling. Gentlemen, it's time for a toast. Here's to Mookie and the beginning of a great career with the Red Sox!

If the Sox win...they'll only be 5 back in the loss column. Amazing
