Kopech continuing hall-of-fame ramp-up: one IP no hits, 1 walk but 2 ks. LOL. In all seriousness, it's nice to see he can more than hold his own against kids his own age in professional baseball. The first red flag I noted with Trey Ball was his inability to do the same last season.

Temper expectations on everyone who is outperforming, but declare everyone a bust if they're underperforming.

C'mon guys. It all just means that Chavis likely will repeat the GCL if his struggles continue and Kopech advances to the NYPL. No need to get all involved in it like that.

Maybe Lavarnway had hamate problems for the last couple of years and that's what sapped his power.

Maybe Lavarnway had hamate problems for the last couple of years and that's what sapped his power.I don't want to get all Lavarnwayguy on you, but it is at least in the realm of possibility. Not saying that I expect any different from him going forward; it is far more likely that he is what he is, but still......

My thoughts almost exactly jclmontana. He comes up and all the sudden is on the DL. He may well have been trying to play through it for the last 2 years for all we know. He wanted to make the big club last year right? We were in the playoff hunt. It would be noble even if he tried to play through it last summer, when he was clearly needed.
He comes up this year and immediately goes on the DL. It's a whole lot better to be on the DL on the ML roster than in the minors one would think.
I'm not counting on it but there didn't seem to be any event where he got hit.
It's also very possible that he doesn't play well for a while, as he tries to recover. Which also is very common.
I think the above scenario is plausible, if not probable. I'll probably be vilified for it anyway. Hopefully people will read the damm text before vilifying me for once. PLAUSIBLE, not PROBABLE.
EDIT: Substitute Possible for plausible if you want. I'm just saying it could have been a factor. Players with hamate injuries do commonly lose their power. It could also be that he just had warning track power all along and has been pitched outside now almost all the time, which inherently made it difficult for him to hit it out as well. As they do with Middlebrooks. Pitchers in the minors didn't have mlb level control. He's not getting as many mistake pitches to hit plus fewer fastballs in the inner half. All that is much more probable.

They know the pitch that Lavarnway broke the bone on. It was on a foul ball in his first at-bat on Thursday, May 29. www.masslive.com/redsox/index.ssf/2014/05/ryan_lavarnway_to_dl_with_brok.htmlThere's no reason to play for two years with a broken hamate. Even if we were to assume that the fact that they know when he did it was a lie, sure, Pedroia fought through it for two months, but there's no reason not to get it taken care of during an offseason. If anything he should feel an incentive to do it, because it would explain to the club where his power went. Looks better than just not hitting.

Portland Sea Dogs ?@portlandseadogs 8m Blake Swihart with a sac-fly, scoring Gibson from second…LF Michael Crouse thought it was the third out. ‘Dogs trail 6-1 in the fourth.
Dogs down 7-1 in the 4th Kehrt isn't having a good day. Gibson's single is the Dogs only hit.
3 XBH of the 5 Spinners hits. McAvoy showing why we underestimated his price tag, 2 perfect, now has 3 2 inning shutouts. 5-1 Spinners.
Spinners pouring it on. 10 runs in first 4 10-1 now. . . . LOL Alex Freedman ?@azfreedman 5m In today's edition of something I've never seen before, RedHawks pitcher Alex White got ejected from both games of a doubleheader.
PawSox ?@pawsox 1m Alex Hassan has done it again homering for the 4th straight game as his solo shot ties things with Buffalo 3-3 in the bottom of the 6th.

Good news on Asuaje. Gordon Edes ?@gordonedes 2m benches clear in Pawtucket after Middlebrooks hit by Esmil Rogers, same pitcher who broke Will's wrist in 2012. Hit in back Friday night Middlebrooks stayed in the game so he must be OK.

Chris Cotillo ?@chriscotillo 32s Source: #RedSox promote prospect Carlos Asuaje to High-A Salem. The "source" was Asuaje's agent, who tweeted it about 30 minutes before that tweet (he has since deleted it). Likely won't be official until tomorrow.
