Only the top four players in the rankings remained unchanged this week. Notable among the other 56 were: - Rubby De La Rosa who was ranked for the first time at # 5. - Manuel Margot moved up a whopping 31 positions from 54 to 23. - Frank Montas moved up from 27 to 24. - Simon Mercedes couldn't match Margot, but moving up 25 spots from 57 to 32 isn't too shabby. - Linares dropped from 26 to 34. - Mike Meyers dropped out of the top 60 from 60th. See the attached file for details. Attachments:

I apologize if this is not the right spot, but Speier wrote on Friday that Stroup was touching 96 and also had lots of swings and misses with his change so he may deserve a spot somewhere on the top 60.

My guess is updated scouting reports from Fall Instrux.

Here's an excerpt from Ian Cundall's latest scouting scratch ( link): There is a lot to like about Margot's overall package; tools and fast twitch athleticism. Offensively, he shows very quick hands and is smooth with his load. During batting practice sessions, I have seen the separation with his hands during his stride that leaves him balanced and in position to generate plus bat speed. It has also carried over into game action. Margot has some leverage and upward plane in his swing, allowing him to create backspin when he squares up the ball. He is presently a line drive hitter and the drives lack some carry, but I see him being able to grow into about average power. Margot is a lean body, with room on his frame to pack on more muscle. I feel the power can develop into about a 15 home run a year projection as he matures into his mid-twenties. Given his medium sized frame, the growth shouldn't cut too much into his speed, which presently grades as plus-to-better.
Margot is also already smooth tracking flyball out in center field. He has looked like a natural at the position, with a strong chance to stick. The routes are crisp and he sees the ball off the bat well. I haven't gotten a chance to see him unleash a throw yet though so that's something to evaluate in a future scouting look. The defense can round into above-average, and with the hitting skills, he has the ability to develop into a regular at the major league level. There will be some growing pains for Margot when he begins to face better breaking balls, but he has shown an approach that is willing to take pitches and work through counts. He also needs to learn to hit inside the ball better to drive offerings to the opposite field instead of carve them off. There's plenty of work to go for the just turned 18-year-old, with the development potentially leading to a top-of-the-order first division center fielder.

Suggestion: the site used to display the last update date. I found that useful when coming back to the page. It would be nice on the projection page.

You can assume every Friday during the season. Suggestion noted though.

Was the update date on the old page just for the rankings for for anything at all on the page? I thought the latter, which would make it not that useful for the rankings specifically.
I often wished there was such an update indicator, especially in the off season, so I didn't have to go line by line to see if anything had changed.

One of the most difficult things to do is rank a team's prospects. During the year, BA, BP and Sickels didn't even agree on who the Sox #1 was with one saying X, another Barnes, and still another JBJ. I don't even like my own lists right after I try to make one. Given all that, I'd like to suggest a couple players to reconsider.Almanzar and Jacobs were born 6 days apart and Almanzar's OPS was 80 points better on the same team. I am not advocating he be ranked higher than Jacobs. I want to see him do it again after two bad years. But maybe the gap between the two shouldn't be quite so large. Coyle is 9 months younger than Cecchini and played in the league above him. Again, I am not ready to say Coyle is better, but he had a strong 2nd half and might be penalized for the Sox aggressive promotion. This is a difficult assignment and even BA doesn't always get it right. They left Tazawa out of last year's top 30 while he was recovering from surgery and this season he pitched like the best set up man in baseball.
