Ryan Hannable ?@ryanhannable 24s Allen Craig was pulled for defensive purposes, no injury. David Ross will be reevaluated tomorrow, with foot injury.

Glad too see Ranaudo (Aka Ranauldo) get his first win. NESN actually did a decent job showing the emotions of his family.

Ranaudo sounds like an intelligent guy. Good, well-spoken postgame interview.

He needs to play or be traded for Stanton or someone like Stanton. No platooning, no AAA. 155 games of Mookie or use him to trade for Stanton/Tulowitzki/Puig/Donaldson.
This team is going to be so stacked next year, I can feel it in my pelvis.

as Bradley was coming into the game, why not Pinch Run for Napoli in the 8th ? Not Farrell's style. Who plays first? Craig or any other option is a bigger downgrade from Napoli than the marginal advantage Bradley has on the bases over Napoli. Plus if the game ends up tied somehow, Napoli's bat is out of the game.

I guess we'll note that Craig is a serious downgrade from Napoli at 1B ... we give Farrell credit for doing a 9th inning defensive replacement.

Not going to report my sources, but hearing from reputable people that we're going to sign Runelvys Hernandez for the stretch run.

And tell CH that I, too, am all for bringing Swihart to Boston. After the Seadogs playoff championship.

Ross seemed to be in some pain tonight.
Butler vs. swihart vs. spring?
The sentimental choice is spring.
The right choice is butler.
But yeArs ago Atlanta brought up a hot young catcher from double a in mid season and since then McCann has been pretty darn good!
If I had a vote - it would be swihart.

I agree, but we also want to be smart and not rush Swihart. I think Swihart will be called up to Pawtucket at sometime this year.

Why does everyone want to add Blake Swihart to the 40 man roster before you need to? Add him over the winter when you need to and don't waste an option year for no reason.

they can option him back for up to 19 days without burning an option. But you are correct. Why bring him to BOS to sit when he could be in the AA or AAA playoffs? Let him play in the playoffs, then bring him up. In fact, if they brought him to AAA and the Pawsox failed to make playoffs, would they be smart enough to send him back to AA?
I am all for Barnes, Swihart, Shaw, et al playing in Boston after the playoffs are over this SEPT.
Edit: Betts spent 13 days on option, so he has yet to burn one. I always assumed it was cumulative, so that he has 6 days to go. Maybe not.
Layne, Herrera, Lavarnway, Nava, Holt have burned options. Middlebrooks NO.

I'm hesitant to skip any player over a level of development, but particularly a catcher. I understanding wanting Swihart now, but he and Vazquez both need to be playing every day, and it would be putting a lot of pressure on him to make that unnecessary leap. Bradley, who was more impressive at Portland in '12 than Swihart has been this year, obviously wasn't ready in '13, and he didn't have the burden of having to learn to catch an entire new slate of pitchers.
I agree with what Hatfield said in a couple other spots that Swihart's promotion schedule won't be determined by the Ross injury and the opening at Pawtucket. On the other hand, even before this injury I would have been unsurprised by and August promotion for him to get a taste of Triple-A. That feeling obviously hasn't changed.

I think Swihart touches Pawtucket at some point this season. But so long as Vazquez continues to provide the expected plus defense, there's really no rush, especially with the added offense at other positions. Maybe a back half of 2015 stretch in Boston, or opening 2016. But with a catcher who I think everyone thinks/hopes is a 5-10 year starter for the Sox, please don't rush him

I don't really think the team wants 2, really young and developing catchers at the MLB level at the same time. Both need to be semi regulars at the same time at this junction. Vazquez just got there, he needs to play 4-5 games a week to learn the ropes right now. After a year, or until they figure out if he's going to be "the one" or not, then fine, but I don't see calling up the other main catcher right now to just sit.
It's another thing to call up a journeyman in the system, not a guy they think could be a foundation catcher, like Vazquez. Be patient.

Good first outing by Ranaudo in the majors. I hope he gets another start this year. I think the walks were a bit of nerves and would like to see what he does in a start that isn't his first ML start against the Yankees.

Not going to report my sources, but hearing from reputable people that we're going to sign Runelvys Hernandez for the stretch run. Why? He is not very good, hasn't pitched in the MLB in about 5 years and looks like Colon's body double. He also can't pitch.
