Britton is pitching himself off the 40-man roster. Up and down Sox career that is now in a downward spiral, possibly for the final time. Arm issues, "other issues" control issues and now just pitching terribly. The end is near. Well, if they wait until November, they can waive him, outright him, and control him until October 2015. But the problem is that nobody would care. He is getting close to pitching himself out of organized ball into the indendent league befpre his 26th birthday. I say he gets through waivers easily in September after the non-competing teams fill their rosters with a few new players. One of those homers tonite was by a light-hitting LHB.

Is Britton injured? Anyone seen him and what his velocity is like? He's thrown almost 500 innings since his tommy john surgery in 2008. Just throwing wild speculation out there; had surgery in October 2008 and was pitching in live games August 2009. Ten months.

I have not seen Britton throw this season, but something is not right with him. He is throwing tons of beach balls this season.

Not watched many Pawsox games either myself. Maybe next yesr, or one season will watch MiLB games more than other MLB games. When have seen Britton, his velo seems to have been low 90's as recall, where it was.
He always reminded me of Kazmir, just never had the success of him. Hope he does get it together one day, just looks like it's never going to be in Boston. They need that roster slot, or will real soon and the way he's been pitching all year, he's one of the 2-3 guys going to lose one.

Mellon's evaluation is of a pitcher that is clearly a "work in progress" but one that does not have a high ceiling. Does not seem to jive with a prospect that could buy Miller, especially since they received other offers for Miller, and hard to believe that this is what they had to settle for. Indeed, from Mellon's assessment you can see why he is having problems in AA. It may not be his age. Guess we shall see.

Who did you think that a lame-duck team would get for two months of a lefty setup guy? Rodriguez was an overpay the O's were willing to make. Duquette has basically acknowledged as much. He's a 21-year-old in Double-A with a mid-rotation or back-of-rotation projection depending who you talk to. That's extremely valuable. He'll be in my top ten once I get around to doing a ranking. I'm sure of it.

And Josh Norris at Baseball America has him with a #2 ceiling - actually a scout he spoke with (I assume he's reporting this because he trusts this scout).
Matt Huegel @matthuegelsp
RT @jnorris427 Talking about Eduardo Rodriguez, scout yesterday said he’d been up to 96, had a chance for three plus pitches & No. 2 future.

I just redid my personal top 20 this morning and I have him as the second best pitching prospect in the system behind Owens, though I think there is a big cluster of guys that are fairly close.

Yeah, for me, doing tiers off the top of my head, it's something like:
Owens --- Johnson & Rodriguez, plus Webster with bigger error bars going both above and below them --- Ball & Kopech --- Ranaudo & Escobar --- Barnes

We will all have a chance to see him pitch tomorrow on NESN, make his Sea Dogs debut. Got to love the timing on that.
