Mike Antonellis ?@seadogsradio Sea Dogs Roster Move: Jeremy Kehrt traded to the Los Angles Dodgers. He can keep Jeremy Hazelbaker company. Its about now I wish draft picks could be traded. A lot of 40 man/R5D concerns could be solved by trading spare parts (KDLC, Kehrt, Hassan, Lavarnway for 3rd round pick). I assume the balance picks are too valuable to trade for 40 man clutter.

No team is going to trade a draft pick for the org player pu-pu platter though.
Essentially, this is the Dodgers saying "Hey, we need a swingman in Double-A and noticed you have three of them. We'll buy you a beer for one of them."
Ironically, Hazelbaker, Aaron Bates, Alberto Rosario and Angel Sanchez are in Chattanooga, Tim Federowicz and Stephen Fife are in Albuquerque, so he'll see familiar faces wherever he winds up.

Salem Red Sox ?@salemredsox 5m Today's doubleheader is postponed with no makeup. Your tickets to today's game are good for any regular 2014 season game.

I agree re: Kehrt, but I think the other guys he mentioned (Hassan, KDLC, Lavarnway) could fetch a later pick (5-10) if pick trades were allowed.

Yeah I was going to edit from '3' to '5'. If a team needs a 24th/25th guy cheap, those guys, or a more lottery ticket Ramos, Coyle (Depending how you eval him) might be worth a later pick, for a team like Houston, who doesn't want to sign draft picks anyway.
Last addition before we get to OwensOwensOwens... A perfect example is Stephen Fife, who was a borderline 40 man add, never would have made the 25 man as a SP and ended up a useful piece.

Marrero with his first AAA HR, a line drive shot to left field. Good to see, he's been slumping.
Henry looks good after a leadoff walk recovered fast and convincingly.

Augliera must be getting his Wheaties. 3 hits over his last 12 innings.

Chaz Fiorino ? Chaz Fiorino 3m Owens allows 4ER in 3rd. Wild within the zone and getting beat on his CB. CB below avg, flashing avg which is more in line w/ most outings.

Im not going to overreact, because Owens clearly has things to work on in AAA and will be challenged now and again to adjust.
But there really is this incredible cognitive dissonance when he gets hit... Just a strange feeling. And even then (without looking at any stats) I bet he ends up with more Ks than IP

Owens gives up a triple off the top of the wall (oppo power). Hassan hits the fence hard but stays in the game. Still 4-2 for the moment.
Charlotte is the top hitting team in the IL by OPS, so this is a good test for Owens.

Sounds like he could not get the curve spinning and got beat up a bit.
This is definitely the part if the learning process he needs to refine before the next step can be taken.

The only way he was going to adjust his current curve or add a new pitch in was if it got hit consistently... it just never has. As opposed to Xander/JBJ though, the 40 man depth ahead of him means he won't have pressure to make the team out of ST, won't need to be added to 40 man, and should be able to work on his game through the summer. There's something to be said for feeling free to make mistakes without it affecting a call-up or return to the big leagues.

Sounds like exactly the two things Owens needs to work on in Triple-A: fastball command and third pitch.

Sounds like exactly the two things Owens needs to work on in Triple-A: fastball command and third pitch. I'll punch that ticket. He's not a comp, but Workman has similar problems - and he's in the majors. He really doesn't have an identifiable third pitch, and he often starts games by getting behind and then featuring stuff in the middle of the plate to try to climb back into the count. That's not a recipe for much beyond getting hit hard and that's what has been happening.

Ball with another encouraging start: 6.2IP 3H 0ER 2BB 4K. 5/8 GO/FO
This was has longest outing as a pro. He has given up more than 2ER once since June 26.
Also, Rijo with a HR.

Sounds like exactly the two things Owens needs to work on in Triple-A: fastball command and third pitch. Yeah, and points out what could be a key issue going forward with Owens ... even if he refines his curve to be more consistent, there aren't many guys whose curves are there for them every time out. Owens is going to need a strategy to pitch when his curve isn't there that day (a fourth pitch?).

Hey im 17 and this is my first post lol and i am really obsessed with the minors and stuff and well im really excited about the sox farm system. Owens seems to be the real deal, i know he has just reached PAW, but i think he has the ceiling of a potention #2-3 with good strikeout numbers and possibly an innings eater. Trey Ball for me took time to adjust but he seems to be learning his way around and throwing the ball great lately. Im not sure what his ceiling is quite yet cause i havent really seen a lot of him, but i was thinking a potential #2? What do you guys think?
