Jalen Beeks went 3 piggyback innings, allowing 1H 0R 0BB and punching out 5 in Game 1
Chavis 2-2 already in Game 2 (5-6 on the day so far up to .264 now) including his first pro HR Devers also 2-2 in Game 2

It's going to be real fun watching Devers and Chavis move up through the minors together.

It's going to be real fun watching Devers and Chavis move up through the minors together. Reasonable chance (esp with the injury) that Longhi may be with them most of it... If Betts or any of the other guys hit, could be the best lineup Greenville has had in a while next year. Edit: just looked again at that Lowell team... Depending how ti shakes out, Greenville could have a 'guy' at pretty mich every spot on the diamond. 2B-SS-3B will have 4-5 guys who could be at A ball next year, but could also be what keeps Chavis/Devers back in A- depending on how the FO sees them.

I hadn't been paying attention to Chavis lately. I thought they converted him to pitcher already. Good thing they were patient, I guess.

Chavis to .268 Devers to .318
Ockimey down to .196... Rough start to pro career for a pick a lot of people were surprised by.

With today's split, the GCL team has clinched at least a spot in a play-in game. The magic number is 1 (over the next three games) to clinch the division. Right now, GCL would be the #3 seed (tied with MFY2 but would win the tiebreaker) and face STL in a one-game semi-final at their home park.

There are so many players on the GCL team, including several at same positions, that I don't think we can take BAs too seriously, especially if the player doesn't have a whole lot of ABs. Many aren't getting consistent day to day ABs, and I think that just adds to the difficulty of adjusting to the pro game.
Ockimey, for example, before today, had played in only 32 of the team's 55 games. It is similar for a number of others. As a result, the BAs, with a handful of exceptions, are fairly low.

Cecchini has clearly changed something. I love to get an updated report from scouts who have seen him over the last month. What did he change?

I like this Pat Light much better than the one we've seen since he arrived in Salem.

Great day of pitching, others have been mentioned already, but Justin Haley with another great outing, he is have a really solid season, and seems to be doing it somewhat quietly.

Barnes and Cecchini really coming on strong to end the season. Would love to see them push for spots on the 2015 MLB roster. Particularly Cecchini since we could use a cost controlled LHH 3rd baseman. I guess Brock Holt is there, but if Cecchini really rediscovers his stroke it would be great to use Holt as more of a super utility guy.

Definitely could use Cecchini if he's anything near as good as he's looking lately.

Holt with a .286 BABIP since the AS break, so a big decline from a .395 first half BABIP, but likely more in line with what his true talent results in. Don't think he's nearly as bad as a 55 WRC+ in the 2nd half, but it could make for an interesting argument with his spot next season

Chavis was at .133 / .235 / .200 through August 1. In 20 games and 75 PA since, .406 / .453 / .638.
And while two outings usually aren't enough to say "too good for the league," the very interesting Jalen Beeks -- BA's #125 draft prospect, who got hurt, fell to the 12th round, and signed for less than $100K -- has a 5 3 0 0 0 8 line, with a 50.0% GB%.

With the exception of two recent hiccups (two consecutive five walk games where the most he had allowed previously was 3), Haley has been putting up solid numbers across the boards all year. He generates a lot of ground ball outs.
ADD: McAvoy at Lowell has also been a ground ball machine.

Moore is too good for the league as well. College catcher in the GCL.

His overall line isn't bad at all now, but it's still misleading. If it weren't for the lack of space I think a Greenville assignment would happen next year.

With signing five catchers this past year and an interesting catcher in the DSL (Miranda is the sixth youngest active player in all pro ball), and Denney returning, the next few years assignments alone in the lower minors should be interesting. We're turning into a catcher development machine. Throw enough against Epperson's wall....
