For the DSL Sox, I am curious as to why Diaz and De Jesus are ranked but not Gonzalez. Statistically, he's had the best season of the DSL starters and has been totally dominant since July. Is there scouting information from the DSL that show lesser upside ?
I suppose it's more of a generic question than this case specifically and to some extent I'm wondering how much of DSL rankings are bonus vs actual development information.

Diaz and De Jesus both got huge 6 figure bonuses and are in their first year in the DSL. Daniel Gonzalez is repeating his second year in the DSL.

K, thx, that gives me the picture of the general situation. I was more curious how it is factored in than I was about Gonzalez in particular.

In general, statistical performance in the DSL, the lowest level of the minors, can be kind of fluky. Unless he has a pedigree (e.g., significant signing bonus) or positive scouting reports, I can understand not ranking the couple guys every year who put up really good DSL stats but about whom little else is known. This is especially true if the dominant guy has succeeded on the basis of elite walk and strikeout numbers. I've learned not to overemphasize DSL stats after getting burned by the likes of Alixon Suarez and Ellis Jimenez.

FWIW, Gonzalez was nasty last year too. But yeah, the above. Tough to think too much of guys in the DSL until they come stateside. Just look at some of the GCL guys you don't ever think much about and what they did in the DSL.
And honestly, if you had us do the top 60 from scratch every day - hell, even the same day - you might get a completely different back third. The lower you go, the more volatile the ranking gets. There's just so little appreciable difference between, say, 50 and 70, but we need to make a cutoff somewhere. If you figure reasonable people can disagree on the top ten, then what about the top SIXTY?
Not really directed to you, Ray, just something I've wanted to talk briefly about for a while.
