By the way, this is a pretty f------ great trade. Myles Smith has some upside, but he wasn't in the top 60 on this site when he was traded, which says a lot. In return, they get an MLB-ready starter who, as recently as a year or two ago, projected to be a league-averagish starter. He's probably not going to be a starter in this organization long-term, but he's the kind of guy who could easily be a Badenhop-esque weapon out of the pen. These little moves around the margin can be huge, and I'm a big fan of this one. I wouldn't go that far. Its a smart move after clearing a couple spots on the 40 man, but I wouldnt expect much from this kid. Looks like a guy to bring to spring training and then stash in AAA as emergency BP help. Hard to see a scenario where he gets a chance to be more than that. That said, not a bad thing to have with all the depth we just traded off. It's not a high-ceiling move, but they gave up basically nothing and picked up a guy who is, at worst, a replacement-level reliever, but could be a solidly above-average one a la Badenhop (and has an option left to boot). That's the kind of clever little move that doesn't generate a lot of press but will really come in handy in building the kind of depth necessary to survive a long season.

Anyone know if Dave Duncan has been spotted in the Phoenix area, lately?

With the jam up in the 40 man rosters, and the fact that the teams waited until after the Rule-5 draft to finalize the first trade and announce the second, I'm wondering if all that twitter churn wasn't just smoke and mirrors.
