The 4th round pick might be an overpay, but there are a few things at play here in addition to the ticking clock on Brady. The Patriots are one of the favorites to take the AFC, and there's a good chance this pick is one of the last of the round.
Also, let's not forget this is the youngest team of the Belichick era. With all the picks spent in past few seasons, there just isn't much room for the type of value guy you typically find in the 4th. Bill tends to identify situational players/projects at this point in the draft. They have most of their core ST guys locked up, and there just isn't much room for more project guys who wouldn't be able to contribute in their rookie year. They absolutely could've found a guy in the 4th to crack their 53 man roster next year, but there was a lower chance than past years. All that said, they knew they needed an upgrade and he was the only viable option at the deadline...it's not exactly the baseball deadline.

All solid points, but they should have been able to get him for a 6th round pick. Even when a transaction makes the team better, I am still always a little disappointed if the team almost certainly could have paid less than it did.

They don't have a 5th or 6th round pick this year so if they wanted him they really had no choice.

So if you believe NFL Networks's Michael Lombardi (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000089499/article/devin-mccourty-moved-to-safety-for-patriots) and read between the lines of some of Belichek's comments (http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/new-england-patriots/post/_/id/4733749/mccourty-possible-move-to-safety) the Pats will be using McCourty at S permanently.
So that puts Talib at 1 CB and McCourty at 1 S spot. The other CB spot will come down to Arrington and Dennard (with the other guy getting the nickel) and Gregory or Chung getting the other S spot (I'm guessing that the Pats will be happy to have Wilson back to more of a subpackage, special teams, take time to learn the nuances role).
JMei's comments about Chung v Gregory make sense. I still lean towards Chung but it's probably not the lock I first suggested.

I have always liked the idea of keeping McCourty at safety. I also mentioned after the draft that Dennard was one of my favorite picks they made and he is starting to make an impact.

I, too, liked the Dennard pick. I think he took a step back last week but we will look back and be quite pleased with the pick.
Sounds like McCourty will stay at safety for now (with Chung out) It will be interesting to see what happens if/when everyone is healthy. Rotation to keep the Ss fresh?

It's looking like McCourty will stay at safety-- Belichick has openly praised the defense for eliminating big plays the last two games, and McCourty doesn't let much get behind him. The other may be a Gregory/Chung rotation, depending on down and distance. Of course, Talib, Dennard, or Arrington may still self-destruct and force McCourty to go back to CB. Dennard in particular struggled to cover slot receivers versus Buffalo, but we won't face another team the rest of the season which plays as many spread formations as the Bills do.

According to Reiss it looks like Chandler Jones won't play again this week. I have suspected since day 1 that the injury was pretty significant b/c there has been absolutely 0 word on his status.
Hopefully this isn't the dreaded high ankle sprain that takes forever to recover from.

I am so so so ready for this game tonight. Hopefully Jones and Mankins can play effectively given their injury woes, and Vollmer has an enormous task with Watt.
Not gunna lie this game worries me a bit lot.
We need to have a better record than the Ravens, who lost yesterday, if we want a high seed in the playoffs.

Oddly, that's only true if it's a two-way tie. The 3-way tiebraker (if NE, BAL and DEN all end up with the same record) goes to the Pats.

In a 3 way tie it goes to Conference record. If the Pats lose tonight then they get their second conference loss. The Ravens in turn could lose to Baltimore next week, making a 3 way tie again. IN this instance, i believe Baltimore could win it because Den would have 3 conference loses, eliminating them and having Pats lose out reverting back to head to head. the rules read very confusing... Bottom line - is a 3 way tie doesn't automaticaly give the Patriots the edge, if they lose tonight. I do expect Baltimore to lose again, even if they beat Denver next week. They still need to play the home Giants and @ Cinn. Brutal schedule and a team that's not playing well. If the Pats win out then they get the 2 seed, possibly the 1 seed. it's going to be an interesting last 3 weeks and a game.

18 players questionable this week, how do injury lists work? Do the pats need to maintain a 50% ratio or something on who plays and who doesn't for players listed as questionable?

It's basically Belichick thumbing his nose at the NFL. He's always done this.
There's no reason not to load up the injury lists. Jets got fined for not disclosing an injury that Brett Favre played through when he let it slip to the media. So Belichick, figuring he can't hide injuries by keeping people off the injury report, just pots anyone with a ding on it so that it doesn't mean anything.

No they don't, not on a week to week basis. They can only have 7 inactive anyways ( currently only have 52 on the roster and dress 45). I can almost guarantee all the inactives won't come off that list, but Gronk won't be active.

Nit-pick: NFL teams can dress 46 players on gameday, even if they have fewer than the maximum 53 players on their roster.

Sucks the Pats might lose the #2 seed, but they will just have to smoke the Broncos in Denver. Such an overrated football team. (Although their defense is very, very good.)

I won't say wow because people were kind of expecting it but that was a Romo bomb. I know the joke of the picture of a guy being next to a word in the dictionary gets old but its true you look up Choke and there is a gigantic picture of Romo.
