Very cool. Really like this kind of table, where everything is laid out cleanly.

Jacoby Ellsbury will not start the all important play-in game tonight.

One of my favorite prospect writers, Kiley McDaniel, got hired by the Braves as the assistant director of baseball operations.
Edit: Saw this was posted in another thread. nvm.

Daniel Norris revealed on Instagram today that he is undergoing surgery for thyroid cancer. Crazier part: he learned this as far back as before the trade to Detroit and decided to pitch through it when a doctor said that waiting until the offseason wouldn't hurt. My word. Huge stones on that guy. ftw.usatoday.com/2015/10/detroit-tigers-daniel-norris-cancer-instagram-mlb

Well, that's certainly good to hear. That said, as for the point I'd made, I'm sure most things become more difficult when you have in the back of your head that you do, in fact, have cancer, never mind pitching in the major leagues.

Why is this in the non-Sox thread? Obviously we're hiring him in some capacity.

I don't love Anthopoulos but I'm not really sure what Mark Shapiro did to deserve to be in charge of him. It always amazed me how much praise he got while running a perpetually mediocre team in Cleveland.

All kidding aside, that's an awful look for Shapiro and the Blue Jays. AA should probably win executive of the year on the Donaldson trade alone.

Don Mattingly hired by the Marlins to manage.
Not sure why, but this just seems like such an obvious Marlins move to me.

Reportedly turned down a *5-year* offer; Shapiro must have pulled a Dombrowski

Don Mattingly hired by the Marlins to manage. Not sure why, but this just seems like such an obvious Marlins move to me. Probably because he's more famous than he is good at the job. The Marlins always seem to be waging some sort of public relations campaign that takes precedence over building a winning team. On the other hand, it's probably a better hire than all of the ex-catchers with no experience coaching who seem to be the rage these days.

Wait, so the Marlins hired Mattingly... THEN fired Dan Jennings.
Yup. Marlins.

Wait, so the Marlins hired Mattingly... THEN fired Dan Jennings. Yup. Marlins. Jennings was already out as manager. It was FO or bust. But still, that is one mess of an organization.

Conspiracy theory alert: Firing Jennings after hiring Mattingly isn't weird because Alex Anthopoulos totally signed off on the Mattingly hiring.

I just don't get why you'd make a major hire, then get rid of the GM. Jennings was also not considered for the GM position I think. It would have been some advisory role I think. What I find weird that you hire a new manager before you hire a GM. You'd think that a prospective GM would want 'his guy' to be at the helm of the team.

I just don't get why you'd make a major hire, then get rid of the GM. Earlier I said that the real Marlins move would be firing Mattingly early in the 2016 season, but the most Marlins move ever would be hiring Mattingly, hiring a new GM, and then having that new GM replace Mattingly before he manages a single game. Fingers crossed...
