I wonder whether Koji will pitch the 9th. Might be nice to get him some MLB action with slightly lower leverage to get back in the swing of things.
Great minds think alike ... but not Farrell.
in the unrelated topic, I don't know how Castillo gets fit into this roster without an injury ... and Craig: is he inadequate in Fenway RF? RF alternative to Victorino on the road only?

Rumors of Shane Victorino's demise have been greatly exaggerated.
I mean, come on, the guy has 3 walks and 1 strikeout. That's a damn fine ratio if he keeps it up (needless to say VSSS). His ability to make contact is as good as ever. He's sporting a sub-.100 BABIP right now. To think that he will sustain such a low level is ridiculous. He also has a SB (and no CS/PO) despite his limited opportunities on base. He is no longer a plus plus defender, but as a right fielder he is still average at least.
Be honest with yourselves, the only reason you're hating on Victorino is that you think Castillo is better.
As it happens, I agree. But Castillo is unlikely to be better by enough to make enough of a difference that it is worth sacrificing the opportunity to let Victorino showcase himself and possibly get some actual real value back in a trade.

I'm curious - did Mookie always have that bat speed? I know he struggled in Lowell in 2012, but was the bat speed still there? It's preternatural

The Nats got "Mookied" today. It was funny watching the highlights and seeing Farrell's face on that double steal. He was like "What the hell is going on". I know he's hip to the play as Mookie, Ellsbury and Damon have done it before and I'm sure others, but Mookie just seems to operate on instinct and somehow it always seems to work out, often just barely. Farrell is more of a button down guy. Mookie is uncontrollable but effing great!

He's cooked. He's still a very good defender in RF but at the plate he's making consistent weak contact. I think he hasn't even hit the ball out of the infield yet in the 7 games we've played. The games I've been able to see, he's hit nothing but weak dribblers to the left side of the infield. Castillo, right now, is the better player and will continue to be going forward. If Xander has indeed figured things out, having Rusney behind him only lengthens our lineup that much more. When it's all said and done, I fully expect Castillo to finish the season as our starting RF and Swihart, to a lesser extent, having some kind of impact at the major league level (think Xander in the '13 postseason). Mookie CF Pedroia 2B Ortiz DH Hanley RF Pablo 3B Napoli 1B Xander SS Rusney RF Swihart C Everyone close your eyes, it's going to happen at some point this year, and it's going to be a thing of beauty.

Is Castillo hurt? If he is, there is the possibility that Bradley might be the replacement for either Craig or Victorino when one of them is traded. Bradley hasn't slowed down since he was sent to Pawtucket. His arm in RF would be awesome.

I think he [Victorino] hasn't even hit the ball out of the infield yet in the 7 games we've played. OK, well, FanGraphs tells me he has hit 8 GB, 2 LD and 9 FB (of which 3 were IFFB), i.e. at least 8 balls out of the infield. Given the choice of whether to trust FanGraphs or your memory, I'll take FanGraphs.

I was pretty clear in my belief that Rusney Castillo should be on this team, but, gotta say, the guy's gotten hurt an inordinate number of times in his brief stretch with the team.

Definitely something I'm keeping an eye on. We're still in the realm of "he's had bad luck in a very small sample," but you've got him injuring the shoulder diving for a ball in the outfield, injured his oblique in camp, and injured his thumb in the AFL, all since he signed in August, seven months ago.

Before you throw Victorino in the trash bin ,the guy that's never played in the bigs should have to stay healthy for a week or two in a row.
If Vic blows out a hammy tomorrow, JBJ probably gets the call.

If Hanley's injury were to require a DL stint (which I doubt), who would get the call? Castillo, JBJ, Cecchini, and Brentz all make sense. I assume Craig/Nava/Holt would split duties in that case, so the position would be more of a backup one (unless Castillo is healthy). That probably makes Cecchini & Brentz good candidates, but it could be JBJ.
Honest question, would inserting JBJ in LF give make Boston the best defensive team in baseball? I think so.

Having JBJ in LF is like going to a strip joint with nothing but your credit cards. I guess you could, but why?
