Just realized that Carlos Asuaje has gotten on base in 22 of 23 games this year en route to his .392 obp. I had no idea.
And technically, he's been a baserunner in every game, as he reached on a fielder's choice in the game he went 0 for 4 replacing Marco Hernandez.

He's not a kid, of course, but hitting is hitting. He's been effective since he came into the system. Now he's doing it in Portland. I wrote earlier that the Phillies were doing themselves a disservice by not considering other trade possibilities, and mentioned Asuaje as a lottery ticket they might want to buy in on as part of a deal.

He showed some pop last year but that hasnt really translated since hes been in Portland yet. Still think his ceiling is a super utility guy due to his versatility.

Has anyone seen the Vine of Humberto Quintero? I don't have time to post it, but I watched it like 10 times and laughed every time. Maybe someone else will post it.

Yeah, I've been watching his SLG ... lots of guys lose their pop when going into AA. Right now, it's just SSS in a cold environment, so it means nothing, but if he can start to hit for some more power, it'll be interesting. Another interesting performer right now is Javier Guerra. He's had a high SLG all year, but he has been on fire lately. He's up to .310/.342/.507 on the year, along with his strong SS defense.

Interesting defensive alignment. I believe this will be Shaw's first pro game in the outfield.

Seriously, they're just playing everyone in that lineup at every position at this point. So strange, although I get it - it doesn't seem as weird when Justin Henry and Mike McCoy are bouncing around so that one or two guys can get more experience at other spots. FWIW, looks like this is also Marrero's first game at 3B and Cecchini's second at 1B. www.soxprospects.com/stats/lineup.php?team=533&year=2015&date=0506Now, MORE interesting to me is that Matt Barnes is listed as available out of the bullpen. I wonder if they're going to get him a few appearances in AAA and get him up.

Thought they might try to build on Castillo's solid game yesterday, guess they are just gonna take it slow with him. Was half hoping he might be up before Victorino, but thats not looking likely.

Going back to Asuaje, I was at a Sea Dogs game a couple weeks ago and was stunned by how small he appeared relative to the other players. He is slight of frame. Not that it matter if his performance is there, but that stood out to me,

Per Portland announcer Mike Antonellis, Sea Dogs catcher Mike Brenly (son of former D-Backs manager and longtime Giants catcher Bob) has retired as a player to take the major league bullpen catcher job.

Heard BP catchers make peanuts, would be a pretty sweet job though.

Tough start for McAvoy in the 1st. Three walks, a wild pitch, a balk and a couple hits so far.

Anyone who has MILB.tv can probably vouch for this but the guy who does the PBP for Greenville pretty much IS Bob Uecker from the Major League movie.
Turned on the game a minute ago and the first thing i hear is...
"Tomorrow is thirsty Thursday and if its as warm as it is today the brews will go down smooth"

Devers is absolutely crushing balls to all parts of the ball park. Ripped one down the RF line for a triple and showed off a little speed that i didnt know he had and then crushed a ball to left center off the wall for a double.

Even on his strikeouts Margot gets on base a quarter of the time.
