Can't find any stats, only this: @jessesanchezmlb: Here's another Cuban player to watch: Second baseman Yolian Cerse is a former All-Star in Cuba and is seeking a deal with a big league club.
I don't think he'll be much.

Can't link from my phone, but looks like his name is spelled "Cerce" most places, BBREF has him as a 28-year-old who last played for Guantanamo. Was he in jail there:)

Highly doubt this cost very much and he didn't even fall under the bonus pool thing given his age. Nothing to really be disappointed or excited about. They sign veteran minor league free agents all the time.

When you are used to making $10 a month, minor league pay doesn't look that bad. It might even be see as a good samaritan measure for the org giving him a contract as minor league roster fill.

Honestly I'm not sure living on minor league wages in the US is any easier than living in Cuba on whatever they pay you there...

No, but if you have a family there and send them back money, it could pretty drastically change the lives of your loved ones, I'd guess.
Good for him. Plus, maybe he gives Moncada another "buddy" in moving to the states.

No, but if you have a family there and send them back money, it could pretty drastically change the lives of your loved ones, I'd guess. Not to sidetrack this with political discussions, but even with the so-called Cuban Thaw, it'll be a while before you can wire money from the US to Cuba. It'd be hard even to send a letter in either direction, so Western Union's pretty much out of the question. Back closer to topic, no matter what his role is and how he pans out, you have to feel good for a guy who went through the harrowing experience of leaving Cuba to play ball abroad getting just that chance—assuming the reports are correct. I'm sorry, I should really adopt the tone of some of the lurkers/newbies around here: OBVIOUSLY THIS MOVE IS BECAUSE MONCADA IS A WASHOUT!!!!111

Also, a bit of comic relief (or at least something at which I chuckled): this can't really be linked, but if you go to Google and start a search for "Yoilan Cerce", the top suggested search is "donde esta yoilan cerce". Looks like even SNB officials sometimes have to resort to Google.
