As unlucky as Kelly has been, he hasn't really earned the benefit of the doubt since becoming a member of the Red Sox. Even with balanced out luck he's still been a very mediocre pitcher. Last season Kelly had a 4.62 FIP, this year it's 4.53.
Rather than continuing to give a mediocre starter whose been unlucky this year a turn in the rotation or put him in the pen, I'd rather he be optioned to AAA to work on his mechanics and see if he can find consistency so he can be the ace he's capable of being.
I wonder if focusing on throwing with increased velocity has screwed with his mechanics and just requires repetition to get back on track?
I'd like to give him 5 outings at AAA and see if he's worked out his kinks.
I say this in part because I believe he's better than a 4.3 ERA over the course of a season.

Well we'll see how Kelly does with his back against the wall. He's definitely on the hot seat unless Steve Wright gets killed.

I can't believe how ensconced certain people are in their opinion of Kelly. It is such a failsafe position. Get to argue that things are not as they seem and hope one day that it turns out so that they get to say I told you so.
I am reminded of Greg Norman...when larry mize holed out at Augusta..and Norman says to his caddy, "well another unlucky bounce against me" or something like that and his caddy said to him (varaiation) - " I don't know about all that, I just want to caddy for someone with some guts"
Cy Young my ***!!

Anyone knows the expected time until the game starts?? MLB.TV doesn't help much when there is a rain delay.

Not that it will keep me from watching the game though.

Wouldn't be a Red Sox game without a 1st inning deficit.
This team....

Still early, but Buchholz's command has been laughably bad.
Also, this isn't surprising considering the Sox run differential, but they are 28th in scoring runs in the first inning and 28th in allowing them. Frustrating as a viewer, even if it doesn't necessarily mean much for the rest of the game.

Don't worry it was just unlucky that meatball he threw right down the middle turned into an RBI double.

Buchholz wasn't getting strikes, so he decided to throw some middle-middle to be safe...

Right, because it doesn't take guts to lead the world rankings on seven different occasions. What have you lead the world in?

Very nice play by Xander, too close to overturn I think.

On a positive note, I liked a couple of the swings Ortiz took in his at bat, some nice balls where he wasn't trying to yank everything.
Also, lol at Escobar thinking Leon has opposite field power

Wait didn't Napoli already do the slip-and-throw-from-his-knees thing a couple of days ago? Is this his new staple?

Xander's defense has noticeably improved this year. Just much better balance and footwork. Good for him.

Very nice play by Xander, too close to overturn I think. Beyond his overall improvement on defense, he's gotten really good at the barehanded play on balls he's charging. I'm pretty happy with the way he's developed this year.

Xander's UZR/150 this year is actually lower than last year's, which I find bizarre, due to his defensive improvement. SSS, perhaps?
