Battle for top 10 (protected) draft picks in 2016 draft
|
Post by amfox1 on May 27, 2015 16:53:05 GMT -5
We're baaaaack!
In 2013, I began this thread on August 5 and the Red Sox won the World Series. In 2014, I began this thread on May 25 and the Red Sox finished with the 6th worst record in the league.
I'll start it today, after being swept by the Twinkies. Which way will we go - World Series or bust?
If the season ended right now:
1. MIL ---- 2. OAK -1.0 (losing but score not reflected) 3. MIA -2.0 4. PHI -2.5 5. CIN -4.0 6. COL -4.5 7. BOS -5.5 8. TOR -5.5 9. CHW -6.0 10. CLE -6.0 11. ARI -6.5 (game hasn't started) 12. SDO -6.5 (game hasn't started) 13. BAL -6.5 (game hasn't started)
(tiebreaker order of the above teams is ARI, COL, BOS, CHW, PHI, CIN, MIA, SDO, MIL, TOR, CLE, OAK, BAL)

Just think of all the tie breakers we'd win!

The Sox are closing in on Oakland and Miami. I have faith in the Sox. They can do it.

That tiebreaker could come in handy. Will be interesting if we're hovering in the 9-12 range near the deadline, to see if they sell and try to guarantee that protected pick or if they just play it out.

ERod may keep us out of the top 10.

ERod may keep us out of the top 10. 10 years from now we may see a bleacher report slide show for most lopsided trades ever, with a slide dedicated to the ERod trade.

I don't think he'll have that big an impact on the final standing. Specially since if they are out of it I expect them to shut him down early (Once he reaches whatever they deem as his innings limit) not to burn his arm in pretty much meaningless games.

But also because you can't win games 0 to 0. Credit for that quote goes to Cam Neely.

We're down to the 5th pick. Philly, Oakland, Miami and Milwaukee are really bad. Should be the lowest we go. Top 10 looking like a pretty good bet.

ERod may keep us out of the top 10. I see where you are headed....Let's not be the Celtics and ruin our draft chances? Ok we can send ERod down for 'seasoning'.

Sigh. Just about time to start checking this thread daily again. We might actually be able to shoot the moon this year and get a top 3 pick in a good draft.

1. PHI ---- 2. MIL -1.0 3. OAK -2.5 4. MIA -3.0 5. BOS -5.0 6. SEA -5.5 7. ARI -6.0 8. COL -6.0 9. CIN -6.0 10. CLE -7.0 11. CHW -7.5 12. ATL -7.5 13. BAL -8.0

The Red Sox are 4th in negative run differential (behind PHI, MIL and CWS). OAK has the 3rd worst record but have a +10 run differential.

Too bad the Sox didn't help themselves against Oakland. If it's beneficial to win, they can't beat the teams ahead of them. If it's beneficial to lose, that's when they actually win. It's pretty bad when you almost hope they lose. It goes against every natural instinct of rooting for your team, yet if they can get a top 5 pick in a strong draft class and get an impact player who can be a core player of a good young emerging Red Sox team of the future, then I can live with it.

If this were basketball, I'd agree with you. Baseball, not so much. I will hope for this team to be as good as possible because you can get great players anywhere in the draft. Its how, not where you draft.

If MIA wins (and they are leading early), BOS will find itself in the #4 spot, due to the tiebreaker.
