Remember when the Pawtucket Red Sox were the Most Talented Minor League Team of All Time at the beginning of the season? Good times.

Remember when the Pawtucket Red Sox were the Most Talented Minor League Team of All Time at the beginning of the season? Good times. I don't remember that. I do remember the rotation of the 3 lefties plus Barnes and Wright being highly thought of. With three of them already pitching in meaningful roles for the Sox, and another waiting on deck, I'd say deservedly so.

Remember when the Pawtucket Red Sox were the Most Talented Minor League Team of All Time at the beginning of the season? Good times. To be fair, their top four prospects (Castillo, Swihart, Rodriguez, Barnes) have all been called up to the majors. But yes, that projected depth dried up quickly due to injury (Coyle, Weeks) and underperformance (Cecchini, Shaw, Marrero, Brentz, Owens), not unlike the major league team. Fire Kevin Boles.

Yeah, for sure ... it's the nature of a AAA team, really, unless the MLB team is very good and lucky (and the Sox have been neither). It's not really a criticism, just an observation. The depth has come in useful a lot earlier than we all probably expected, that's all. Although, fwiw, I don't think less of Owens now than I did at the start of the season ... really, Cecchini's the only guy who has changed his status significantly in my mind. He's just cratered.

FYI, they were ranked as the most talented team in the minors by either BA or MLB.com and the second-most talented by the other.

Agreed. Though Coyle has also dropped off significantly to me, probably even more than Cecchini. Coyle's problems have always been strikeouts and staying on the field, and he's made no progress with either. With Cecchini, his play is so far off of what's expected that I can't help but think something is wrong and that it is either injury-related or correctable.

Cecchini is like JBJ bad without an elite glove at a premium position. I was curious if pitchers were going to attack him more if his power didn't at least become respectable after he was promoted to AA in 2013, but I never thought it would be this. I thought he'd have at least the floor of a Nava type, but it doesn't look like that's true now.

Ha ... ok. Then let me be more explicit: it was hyperbole, a deliberate overstatement not meant to be taken literally but, instead, meant by its excessive grandiosity to highlight the rather quotidian reality of a AAA team that is around .500 and no more than moderately stocked with prospects.

But it was the one that went 9 innings that had to use a position player on the mound. Go figure.

Anybody know any high ceiling DSL bats to look out for in particular? Ben Badler did a summary of our 2014-2015 J2 signings a couple months back....I posted some tidbits from it here: forum.soxprospects.com/post/134055/threadElwin Tejeda obviously got the highest bonus of the hitters so he is someone to keep an eye on, but I also am intrigued by Marino Campana.

Chris Cotillo @chriscotillo 19m19 minutes ago Source: Dana Eveland opts out of minor-league deal with #RedSox and becomes free agent. Had 1.54 ERA in 16 appearances with AAA Pawtucket.
