Uh-oh... HBPs can escalate fast when playing the Royals.

Boom! Devers just unloaded a 400+ home run to cf. Off a LHP too.

Pulled in the third. The lake monsters seemed to figure him out the second time through.

How did he accomplish this?
Edit. Never mind. I thought number was the inning, meaning Austin would have done both in same inning.

Basabe with his second clean steal.

3 of the 10 hits Johnson gave up were in the infield. PawSox writeup makes it sound like he got dinked and dunked to death, which the PBP seems to back up, save for Bethancourt's homer.

I'll come back with a full report tonight or tomorrow. The big takeaway - Devers is a really good hitter and he can play third base too, at least for the short term.

Ockimey had 2 2B and a 3B. He has a high offensive ceiling if he can put it together.

Vermont's defense was really really bad. Like worse than Hanley bad.
Ockimey put some solid wood on the ball, but good defenders take away his first double and the triple is a double.

Aro with a Rollie Fingers-esque save. Enters a 7-3 game in the 7th with the bases loaded and nobody out. Gives up a hit off a glove and pitches 3 innings striking out 5. Light is getting a lot of pub. Do we have anything in Aro? Light, Aro and Barnes would certainly add some power arms to the bullpen.
Good to see Ball pitch 6 innings when statistically it looks like he wasn't mowing em down.
Ockimey with a great start to the season. His high school is in South Philly. If he turns into anything, the Phillies can't be happy they didn't draft him.

Aro throws low-90s and is not exactly a "power arm." He doesn't have to be to be an effective reliever, though, and he's been pretty great basically his entire minor league career. Still, I think he's got more of a 7th-inning ceiling, at least unless this year's significant improvement in his walk rate is real.

Some notes from last night's Greenville game:
Beeks, Jimenez and Fernandez charting
Keith Law and six scouts were attending, by my count (one was BOS, one was a NLE team, don't know the others)
Pitching:
Lakewood's starting pitcher LHP Garcia is PHI's 27th ranked prospect per MLB.com, he was sitting mostly 88-91, with a decent slider and a loopy curveball (keep in mind when talking about hitters)
Lakewood's lineup included their 11th, 13th, 29th ranked prospects per MLB.com, generally not an impressive group as a whole
Reilly 88-91, arm side run on FB, struggled to hit the outside corner, best pitch is his low 80s change, leadoff HR was a no doubter, got better as the game went on but given his age and stuff, nothing to dream on
Harris 88-91, herky-jerky motion as described in SP.com scouting report, probably needs to be in Salem given age/profile
Position players:
The star of the show was Devers. He's a little doughy up top and has a thick lower half but he made all the plays at 3rd base, including a couple of testers, and showed an adequate arm for the position. The thing that strikes me about him is how far he lets the ball travel in the strike zone. He swung late at a couple of 90mph FBs during his first two PAs and nearly hit them out to the opposite field (both were just foul). The HR was on a FB and was crushed to CF. Law tweeted his estimate of 420, my guess is slightly less, but it cleared the 12-foot wall/fence in CF. He also beat out an IF hit, he's not fast but he's not Ortiz running. I believe his bat is ready for Salem, and I would try to move him quickly to a level that will test him more.
Moncada was less impressive, offensively. I did get to see him from both sides of the plate. Clearly he has bat speed and did barrel the ball on his outs (the ROE should have been a hit, as it was smashed and the fielder did great to get to the ball but had no chance to get him and threw the ball away). He also got fooled in the final PA pretty badly (FB, SL, SL) where he looked at the two SLs for strikes. Defensively, he made all the plays, except he dropped a relay throw which would have let to an extra base if Dubon hadn't backed it up. Athletic, solid arm.
Monge glides in CF, easy speed. He had a couple of hits, going with the pitch through the first base hole.
Procyshen put a good swing on his double down the RF line. He and Reilly allowed three steals - some of this was off Reilly, but two of the three throws were off line (one to SS side of base and one high to 1B side of base). Average arm at best. Missed a foul pop-up, overran the ball for an error.
Dubon is a slight guy, he looked bad on his K and has weak contact on two subsequent GOs but ended up with two solid hits, including a double down the LF line. Missed the 9th inning error (left after the top of the 9th, with Moncada left on deck) and his defense did not otherwise stand out.
No Chavis, no Guerra, no Longhi.

It's funny how we take for granted major league defense. In lowell's 9 run second there were 2 easy foul pop ups that were dropped. A couple bobbled grounders, some throws that pulled defenders off the bag. It was fun. Fwiw: Ockimey is a man amongst boys.
