2015 Boston Bruins Offseason Thread
|
Post by texs31 on Jun 26, 2015 14:28:59 GMT -5
Yesterday, Carl Soderberg's negotiating rights traded to Colorado for a 2016 6th rounder (today CS signed a deal with the Avalanche)
Today, while Boston attempts to move up (possibly to 3) in tonight's draft, they have reportedly traded RFA Dougie Hamilton to Calgary. It's looking like it's picks (including #15 this year) which they might use to make that move up.
Lucic heavily in the rumor mill as well.

Hamilton to Calgary for #15, #45, #52. Not thrilled about moving Dougie, but if the contract negotiations were as far apart as reported, you have to move on I guess. The return isn't half bad in my eyes though. Couple those three picks along with #14 and #37, and Sweeney has a chance to be in the drivers seat tonight. Hopefully his Ivy League intangibles pay off.

LA emerging as leading contender for Lucic. Boston is asking for a lot (per TSNs Bob McKenzie and Darren Dreger).
Also, they've re-signed McQuaid (4yr/11Million which seems high).

G Martin Jones and 1st rounder (13) to Boston for Lucic. B's now have 13, 14, 15, 37, 45 and 52.

Edmonton is apparently shopping the 16th pick....ok who's got #17?
With the acquisition of Martin Jones, who is a great back up goalie. I'd like to see Subban traded for even more assets, or packaged with a few of these picks for someone like Eberle or Hall if we include more.
Don't mind the trades. The McQuaid deal is very concerning though, that's a Chiarelli type contract.

D Prospect Colin Miller part of the LA package for Lucic.

Yeah, with Jones and top college G Zane McIntyre now in the fold, I can definitely see Subban being available. Arizona has 33 year old Mike Smith in net and a couple of okay prospects in the system. Just sayin . . .

Lots of reports suggesting the Bruins are indeed heavily involved with The Coyotes for the #3 pick with the intention of selecting Hanifin.
My uninformed trade proposal and dream scenario would be...
#14, #15, and #52 plus either Jones or Subban for the #3 pick
Walk away with Hanifin and Timo Meier at #13. I would be really happy with that, and would still be upset with that McQuaid deal, the more I think about it, the more aggravating it is. He's not worth that money, and for a really tough player, he misses a lot of time with injuries.

.....and crickets.
Hanifin goes to Carolina at 5
No trades of any kind. Draft has gone as expected.
If Buffalo can get Eichel to sign (something seems off between the player and team, relationship wise, but I assume he will sign) along with the trade for O'Reilly, that's a great day for the Sabres.
Getting antsy to see what Sweeney is going to do.
Update: Yikes, no trades, Sweeney made all three selections
Jake Zboril D @ #13, 6'-2" 190lbs. Solid in the defensive end, very physical, good skater, good puck mover, not overly skilled offensively.
Jake DeBrusk LW @ #14, 6'-0" 175lbs. Good skater, strong character, skilled playmaker, scored 44 goals last season in juniors. Solid two way player.
Zach Senyshen RW @ #15, 6'-2" 195lbs. Elite skater, good two way player.
Bruins passed over some big names to take DeBrusk and Senyshen.
Very intriguing day turned disappointing rather quickly, let's wait and see some more I guess.

Not splashy in terms of players coming in but we did get 6 of the top 60 players in what was considered a very deep draft. Sweeney is getting heat now but if Boston ends up with 4 regulars out of those, people will remember this weekend fondly.

A 3rd round pick for Zac Rinaldo? I'd nominate that as a finalist for worst trade ever. Rinaldo is a below average 4th liner, even if he didn't take stupid penalties and get suspended all the time.

Hamilton trade sucked but it was understandable. Lucic trade was actually a nice haul. It was tough to watch but something had to be done. The McQuaid contract made me nervous, and making all 10 picks in the draft was just not necessary, and a misuse in my opinion. How do you not improve your NHL roster at all using all those picks you got dealing away major parts of the core. Needless to say I was aggravated after the draft, whether the players they got turn into 3-4 regulars or not. But today really cemented the major concerns I have with this front office. Awful, awful trade today. I'm going to try and hold judgement until the end of the offseason, but a terrible week for The Black and Gold.

G Martin Jones flipped to the Sharks for next years 1st Rounder, and a college prospect. Final haul for Lucic is two 1st Round Picks, a very promising 22 year old offensive defensemen, and a college prospect. The one move Sweeney got right, he got REALLY right.

Savard contract also likely part of the deal.

Along with the Hayes trade, if the Beleskey contract is indeed under 4/per, this was a good day for the B's.

Okay, now I get it. Shame on me for judging so soon.
Still sounds like Boston got hurt by not wanting to trade Hamilton to PC but otherwise, this is turning into a nice offseason.
I'd say they still need a replacement for Hamilton and, arguably another D as well. Then just a backup G (I don't think Subban, McIntyre or the just re-signed Smith are the answers there)

Then just a backup G (I don't think Subban, McIntyre or the just re-signed Smith are the answers there) Did they really get hurt by this though? Was PC offering anything more than 16, 33, and 57? Because there really isn't that much different between that and 15, 45, and 52.

Actually, you're right. I focused on the fact that 16 and 15 weren't all that diffreent but the 12 pick difference in that 2nd rounder was big. That might not be true, especially if it's the Bruins making the pick. For example, at 33, Mitch Stephens was drafted and he wasn't on the TSN top 100 prospects (just 1 list, mind you but you get the point). Meanwhile, at 45 Boston used the Calgary pick to take Jakob F-Larsson (54 on that list). The point being, especially once you get beyond the top players and picks, many of the rankings become very individualized and the difference between those 2 picks decreases.
I would say the one caveat MAY be (and it's only conjecture seeing as we don't know what possible trades to move up were in play) is if 33 may have enabled you to move up in the first round (moreso than whatever they were offering with the picks they ended up getting). Again, however, that depends on the team you are negotiating with, how far they want to move down and how much difference they see in the secondary pieces.
