Yeah I was surprised myself that the Diamondbacks had a scout at this game. I run into scouts all the time, but not one from Arizona. Although I did talk with a Giants scout last year at a GCL game in Sarasota. This guy was very nice and helpful and told me he is covering the Orioles for 5 days before his next assignment which was in the mid-west. I understand after the draft he sort of handles an organization in increments like this. He was certainly impressed with Espinoza! Not saying that Steve or anyone in particular would read too far into this, but just in case anyone would - this would just be part of normal coverage for a club. The complexes certainly don't get scouted like the higher affiliates do, but there are still guys there. Orgs may just differ in how hard they scout at that level, where the process is really more building a base of knowledge on a player for later on rather than identifying guys to acquire. (Although guys do get traded from the complex, as we've seen with guys like Gabe Speier, Luis Ortega, Eddie Lora and others.) Engel Beltre....the outrage.

Sitting between 94 and 96 and touched 97 as a 17 year old who weighs what looks like 185ish.
Ummmm, I'm drooling here.

Roniel Raudes: 5IP, 5H, 0ER, 0BB, 9K
Samuel Miranda: 3-4, 2B, BB Hemerson Serven: 2-5, 2RBI, K Marino Campana: 2-5, 2B, RBI, K
Another impressive outing for Raudes who is sporting a nifty 33K-0BB through 29.1IP.

I made the tough decision of looking first at the box score and then at Steve's report. Both damn impressive.
Every photo looks like a sample from a how-to book on proper pitching mechanics. I've been following the system for a long time (1962), and I can't remember a HS age (let alone younger!) kid with this combination of scouting approval, appeal to an uninformed eye, and early results.
I want to remind folks that he signed for just the #29 pick slot recommendation. HS or HS-age international pitchers who have signed for more $, inflation adjusted, since 2003: Casey Kelly, Trey Ball, Mike Rozier, and Henry Owens. All of them made their pro debuts at age 19.

Between Raudes and Reyes, that's two guys with 29+ IP and 0BB's to go along with a 1k/inning or more average. Espinoza is already looking solid in Florida. Wither Christop[her Acosta, the other big bonus baby from latin America last year? That's a ton of young hopefuls on the mound for the Sox future. Putting on my shades now.

He's given up 6 hits in his last 10 innings, with 20 K, for a FIP of -0.80. Before that he was merely impressive (2.17 FIP). His FIP is now 1.15.

Chad de la Guerra had had enough of doubles. He goes yard for 2-R HR. Basabe (Luis X) also goes yard for 3-R HR. Lowell doing it's Lowell thing, up 5-1 after 4 innings.

Henry Owens has a no hitter after 5 innings and has given up just 1 walk. Just 1 K.

Henry Owens 7.0 1 1 1 2 3 0 3.29
Finally gave up a hit (double) and a SF drove him in. Henry is probably done.

Lowell blows a 4-run lead in the 9th. But Basabe hits his 2nd HR of the game, a solo shot this time, in the 10th. Lowell up 7-6, on to the bottom of the 10th.
ADD: Edwar Garcia gets out of a 10th inning jam and Lowell hangs on to win 7-6

Every photo looks like a sample from a how-to book on proper pitching mechanics. I had noticed the same thing and was going to comment on it. With a lot of pitchers, particularly young ones, when you see action shots of them there are always a couple angles where they look just a little off - balance off on the leg kick, some hitch in the delivery, a bad arm angle - something. You may notice that we often use Kelly O'Connor's awesome pictures in our news articles. Whenever I go through to look for one for a pitcher, there's always a couple when I'm like "I can't use THAT picture." With Espinoza, the balance is just marvelous throughout the delivery. Caveat: Picturesque balance doesn't ALWAYS equal great pitching. Pedro Martinez's was wonderful, but so was Daisuke Matsuzaka's. And Mark Prior's. Though I suppose the chances are still against Espinoza having even Matsuzaka's career.

I can't even comprehend 0 walks with that many innings. Is it possible that everyone in the DSL just swings at everything?
