I for one figured that once Deaza got hot with the bat that Nava's time in Boston was over but I wonder if he may end up starting at 1b in place of Napoli.Any thoughts on the subject ?

In the not-so distant past when teams carried only six relievers, a first-base platoon of Napoli and Nava would probably have been a really good idea. There's a competitive advantage to be gained for a team willing to take on that kind of roster construction.

Not with this pitching staff. This starting staff and group of relievers couldn't survive with six bullpen arms.

The silence around Nava is deafening. I hope he gets a long enough rehab that his bat demands being put in the lineup, if not the Sox then somewhere.

Ben actually spoke/confirmed rumors that a lot of teams were asking for Nava in the off-season. It would be edifying to know what was offered (not like we ever will until the Wikileak dump, sadly).

I think Holt's success has basically made Nava obsolete. Guys are getting healthy, with Pedroia due back soon. You have Hanley in left, Betts in center, and Shane / De Aza apparently splitting time in right. Napoli is playing himself out of a starting position at first, but with Pedroia returning Holt is going to need a place to play. Kind of works out well for us, in a way.
I just don't see a place for Nava to get ABs. Even another rash of injuries wouldn't likely open up a spot for him. I think it's time to trade him - no idea what the market is for him (if there even is one) but I do think he deserves to play in the majors somewhere when he's healthy.

right now, it is Travis Shaw that has Nava's roster spot.

“@jcmccaffrey: Nava worked a lot with Gedman in Triple A on fixing his swing.”

Fare well, Daniel Nava. Always a favorite. They did you wrong at the end. He will now proceed to kill the Sox 19 times a year.
Now maybe we'll find out from Nava what Farrell's problem with him was. My guess - not enough visible "Gomesiness."

Sigh.
Red Sox, your talent evaluation is bad and you should feel bad.

I'm happy for Nava. He should get a chance to play for Tampa. He never was going to play much more for the Sox. I am a bit surprised Oakland didn't grab him. He's a Beane kind of player.
