Just dialed up the National Weather Service radar out of LA...
I don't think they'll be playing for a while...it is pelting down in Anaheim and there is more rain downstream.

Since this thread is all over the place, given that there is no game to discuss, I'll add my couple of cents. I don't understand the general desire to trade Uehara. He is a very good closer and the Sox don't have another one. There are a couple of teams that could use a good closer right now and he would be a good candidate. However, whatever the Sox got for him would not be as valuable as he will be to the Sox next year, assuming the team is much better next year.
The Sox will get a middling to upper middling prospect at best. The Sox have a whole bunch of those now. The Sox need a slugging rightfielder and a slugging first baseman, along with a couple of elite pitchers and a good 7th or 8th inning RP. Uehara won't bring any of those.
Pedroia is the best damn player on the team. The idea of trading him is just crazy. No sense discussing it.
Napoli is done. Play Shaw.
Bring up JBJ and put him in RF.
Is there a contender that needs a 2B? I don't know of one, but if there is, trade Holt. He would be a terrific 2B fulltiime. Not as good as Pedroia, but not tremendously far behind. That kind of deal, sweetened a bit, might bring somebody worth having.
I'd be willing to give quite a bit to get Sale and that Cuban 1B from the White Sox.

First rain delay in 4 years at the Angels park. Welcome to Red Sox baseball 2015. First pitch expected at 9.15 at best.,Boston time. Bless your heart if you see this game in whole. They just showed a live shot. This game won't start at 9.15. There's a big black cloud hanging over Ben Cherington teams head.

Rain somewhat likely in Anaheim until about 10 PM PDT. They don't have the same drainage we have out there. If this game is played it will start at 1 or 2 am eastern time. My guess is DH on Monday. It is pouring right now.

I just checked the radar again. It looks like it will be raining all night in the LA area. I'll be shocked if they play this game tonight.

Danr, you like anyone on Pittsburgh?...trade him back there, they've got middle infield troubles that will allow Holt to play regularly.

Well, they did manage to acquire Eduardo Rodriguez for 27 and two-thirds innings of Andrew Miller. So you should be able to get the same level prospect (at minimum) for 80-90 innings of Koji Uehara.

E-rod was once in a lifetime deal. He wasn't even the O's top pitching prospect. It just work out for us. Nobody is giving us an E-rod upside prospect for Koji.

Hey, so what's the current thinking on the knuckleball hangover effect? I was under the impression it was a real thing but some brief googling was inconclusive (e.g., it turned up this). I ask because I just saw a Pete Abraham tweet that said the Red Sox are sticking with their same order of starting pitchers for tomorrow, i.e., Rodriguez followed by Wright. Now if the knuckleball hangover effcet isn't a real thing then this doesn't matter. If it is a real thing, on the other hand, then it would be certifiably insane to pitch Wright on the back end of a doubleheader to end a series when you could get the advantage of pitching him first. The only thing that would make it not be insane is if the Red Sox organization simply doesn't know about the knuckleball hangover effect. Is that possible? Could it be that the Red Sox just don't do sophisticated analysis anymore, that maybe their interest in analytics just walked out the door when Theo Epstein left? Could it be that their reputation as an analytically savvy organization is simply a legacy of the Epstain years, and that now they are actually behind the curve? The options appear to be either that the knuckleball effcet is not real or the Red Sox organization is incompetent. Which is it?

This is exactly why he would be very valuable to a contender. Right. But it also gives no credence to what you inferred with your other comment ("… we seem to play better as a team when he is out of the lineup …") If you're not suggesting a correlation, why mention it? If you are suggesting a correlation, what is it? By my calculation the sox are 29 and 42 in games Pedroia plays and 13 and 7 in games that Pedroia does not play. While none of it is Pedroia's fault per se, in my mind it is evidence the sox seem to play better without him or to be more accurate, the sox have a better winning percentage without him in the lineup.

Without getting too deeply into why your math is insane, some intervening variables: In every game started by both Dustin Pedroia and Allen Craig the Red Sox are 2-8. In games started by Ryan Hanigan and NOT started by Dustin Pedroia, the Red Sox are 7-2.
There are other factors that you are ignoring. Not missing, but ignoring. On purpose.

If you actually believe that Pedroia playing makes the team worse just because they have a certain record with him in the lineup, then I have a bridge to sell you....

It's like taking the argument that Pitcher A is better than Pitcher B because he has more wins, but making it even worse.

Pittsburgh's shortstop got hurt yesterday and it looks like they are bringing up a strong prospect from the minors. They have one of the same needs as the Sox: a 1B. Alvarez has been a disaster at first, especially defensively. They also need more hitting. I don't think Holt fits their needs in the same ways it is hard to give him one position on the Sox.
Also, the Orioles didn't know what they had with Rodriguez. He had been injured and it appeared he was not making a full recovery. He didn't have a very good first half last year. If you look back on this site, you'll see some people here were not immediately excited by the trade. If the Orioles had known what they had, Rodriguez would be pitching for them now. Instead, they are considering renting Cueto.

Pittsburgh dropped the ball last year they should of got into the Lackey deal. He would be pitching this year for 500k. They didn't want to part with anything. (Josh Bell)?
This year I thought Buch would of been perfect for them. Some package with him for Bell again. He is at AA right now he is not a finished product yet. But we know what happened to that one. I don't get them do they want to win it or just try to win it? You have to give your fans hope every once in a while.

He wasn't the only top prospect that was offered for Miller. Kiley McDaniel in his preseason's top 200 prospects says that Detroit offered a package headlined by Jake Thompson who was #29 on that same list. It's not that I think we would get a similar return by trading Uehara, but that was far from being a lifetime deal.

Does anyone know what networks are broadcasting the first game today? I can't seem to find it in the TV schedule anywhere.
