Wright's knuckleball is BS tonight. Hard to follow that thing with the eye, much less the bat or glove.

Wright is an embarrassment to the sport.

JBJ is really a AAAA guy. Severino is the real deal. Nobody looked good vs him tonight other than Ortiz and De Aza.

JBJ is really a AAAA guy. Sure looks that way. Nonetheless, I'd put him in the OF every day until the end of the season. He's got nothing left to learn/prove in AAA. If he succeeds, the Red Sox have another cost-controlled 3-4 WAR; if he fails, they have a better chance at a higher pick.

Get rid of this bum. Knuckleballs don't belong in the sport. Start Joe Kelly or Justin Masterson because they're oh so much better.

What do they call a knuckleball that doesn't knuckle?

Already 2 incredibly terrible calls by the ump today. Also known as a great day for MLB umpires.

Castillo's AB just now might have been his best. Worked an BB against a guy who just refused to throw him anything. Maybe he should play more...

Unpopular opinion: I've been pretty disappointed by Swihart this year, both offensively and defensively. His plate discipline/plate recognition has looked pretty terrible, he hasn't really shown much game power, and he's not really shown above-average defensive skills (though the tools/athleticism are certainly there).

I know it didn't look hard but that was flawless by JBJ. Set up immediately behind where it would land and delivered a bullet to cut off.

I don't think he was ready. I thought when he was originally called up he should be up no longer than a week till they found a backup.

I agree with you Jmei. I haven't been wowed by his defense, and his bat has been below average (if slow to adjust). I think he has the athleticism and tools, but it isn't happening right now. I think he has a future, but at least Vazquez showed an above average skill where as Swihart has yet to show any other than speed for a catcher.

Any win against the MFY is a good win. Whether we need/want it or not

Very entertaining game. Wright had the ball dancing. Not only were the hitters shaking their heads, the catcher, ump, and fans were shaking their heads. The last pitch on Jacoby's 3rd K moved left then right about 6 inches as it crossed the plate.
Severino is nasty.

I think more than any position player, a catcher needs his reps at every level. It's why I was so surprized with Vazquez immediate defensive skills and slowly escalating offensive progress last year. While I think Swihart's first intro to the bigs probably should've come this September, he has adapted as best he can. Given all that, he still has a ways to go with pitch calling, receiving yhe ball, framing, and game management. I can see the potential, but all of it clicking to a .270/.330/.420 line with consistent good D prob won't be seen til 2017.

This was one of the best-played games of the season. I take back writing that Wright should be in the bullpen. Wakefield did something with him that has made a huge difference.

He had a lively knuckleball today and had a good outing. Maybe we shouldn't read too much into one start — have we forgotten Pedroia "fixing" Napoli's swing (man, that was a long time, and a lot of outs, ago)?

I think under the circumstances Swihart has acquitted himself well this season. Should he had another season in AAA? Yes. That was not a luxury we had this season. And to blame either he or Leon for the pitching woes this season is, imo, misplaced criticism. The pitching staff that has been crappy all season has been crappy when Hanigan returned...albeit a little less crappy, but still crappy. And to criticize his lack of production/power when he is focusing on learning the defensive aspects of the major league game seems nitpicky to me. But hey-ho, everyone is entitled to their opinions.
Anyway great win, great pitching performance by Wright...again.
