If the weather holds (and the report is clear) it will be the GCL debut for Raudes.

Anderson Espinoza pitching today! The heartbreak of the statistical analyses of the here n now must be crestfallen as their hero only has 5K's in his first 11 batters.

Espinoza today: 4IP 3H 0ER BB 5K He's a machine at putting up basically a 4-3-1-1-1-4 type line every time, occasionally turning the 1s to zeros just to mix it up. I've got to think he can handle Lowell and a few five inning starts this year at some point.

they report velocity and spin on scoreboard at JetBlue and according to a fan in attendance these were his numbers... incredibly impressive espically the 2890 spin on his slider which is 20.4% higher than the major league average spin of 2400.

If those are averages, that's just straight ridiculous. If they're peak velocities or peak spin rates, they're still pretty impressive.

I've got to think he can handle Lowell and a few five inning starts this year at some point. I wouldn't bother moving him again this year. He'll go to instrux and then likely to Greenville next spring. What's your biggest concern with another move? Just re-acclimation? Or not enough of a test to warrant the risk of him pushing too hard and getting hurt? Or something else? I'm of a mind that moving up gives them more info on his ability to handle the Greenville transition, maybe reveals some need for location/pitch sequencing/etc. that he might not get dominating lower-level competition. Plus, he's been extremely consistent over 7 GCL starts, and I tend to think prospects are best moved until they're challenged and need to make adjustments. He's very young though, so I understand the conservative approach. At the same time, I think comfort can be an impediment to adaptation. Frankly, if he makes 10 GCL starts and still has an ERA around (or under, as it were) 1, with his peripherals where they are, why not reward him with a move to Lowell or even Greenville for 3-4 starts? Finishing the year at Greenville, while aggressive, ought to give him confidence going into the offseason, and familiarize him with the team and area heading into next year.

Nice debut for Raudes, who's also just 17. With him, Espinoza, Victor Garcia, and Denyi Reyes, the Sox have some good-looking low-level arms.

Topping out at 98.2 and working mostly 96-97 is pretty ridiculous for any age, but at 17 that's just insane. Curious to see how he holds velo as he gets up into the 80-100 pitch range next year. The smooth mechanics should help. What a signing that's turning out to be.

Really impressive line for a youngster making his stateside debut. I'm hoping to get a legit scouting report (something that goes beyond an arsenal that includes an obedient curveball), now that he's in FL.

Somebody on here noted that when he signed he was high-80s with good pitchability. Obviously that latter part has borne out so far. He was only 16 so a few ticks into the low-90s seems very reasonable. But yeah, Om very curious, too. I think he got a reasonably large bonus (around 200k?) given that he's Nicaraguan, and from a pretty weakly scouted area.

The separation between the FB/CH is pretty insane.
