Is anyone else concerned about Tate Matheny's slow start? Any good explanation for it, other than a normal adjustment to pro ball?

He and Rei were batting 8th and 9th for Lowell, batting .175 and .173, respectively. Slow first seasons for both - though Rei was returnig from injury. I believe the expectations for Matheny were not all that glowing for upside.

I always worry when a prospect also has a poor second year. Both Matheny and Rei will have a much better idea of their faults and their conditioning level after Lowell. As with all kids, they either have it in them to be able to make adjustments or not.
A few of us on here worried about Devers, as an example, over the last 6 weeks.....but until someone really experiences professional baseball and all that it entails, know one can understand. Even Tate and Rei have played much longer this season than ever (college season plus). Lets see next year if they have the mental ability to understand how to be better.
Now with all that I said, if we are still discussing them this way next year at this time.....color me "red" and label me pissed!

I'm hoping are I will improve next year when completely healthy. I never expected Tate to be a major leaguer, so I'm not as disappointed there and will just continue to wish him the best and expect nothing.

Neither a great talent nor as polished as expected. Not very young as well.

I've seen him play a few times and he seems to be a toolsy interesting piece beyond his baseball DNA. .. Should he now be classified as a pre top prospect.

He's also the most unanimous, head-scratchingly confusing early round pick we've ever made. Go for somebody with more talent and hope they reach at least a small portion of that talent making them equal to what Metheny would be if somehow reached his ceiling. I'd love to hear from the scouts or higher ups in the front office who thought this was a good pick on why.

Keep him at Greenville for the entire year, hope his triple slash line keeps up....then hope Dave Stewart thinks he is the next AJ Pollock.

A prospect is fun to watch, but trading him for a sure thing in the Majors is never a losing deal.

I actually liked the pick at the time, as I'm all in for college performers. I'm lower on him right now, because of the aforementioned K% and BB%.
