Rich Hill is a hell of a story. He'd be a nice minor league signing this offseason (either as Pawtucket rotation depth or as a potential lefty reliever). I always liked him. He's making a case for a major league contract. Hell, Breslow got one this year. I didn't start watching till the 12th inning, so I didn't see him at all. But he's been a pretty good reliever the last two years, in terms of being hard to hit; what's kept him out of MLB is that he's had lousy control as a reliever. He has a 2.12% BB% this year as a reliever, all in AAA, and a 6.5% as a starter, including today. That's hugely significant statistically (p = .0005). If you include his HB, it's 26.3% vs. 7.8%, p =.00007. At his age, it's possible that he has better, more consistent mechanics when he's on a starter's schedule than when he pitches from the pen. Son of a gun, I think you've got to keep him in the rotation; he could get four more starts. Take them away from ERod and Owens to limit their innings. I'd also like to see them try Kelly at closer for the last week and a half or two weeks.

He's throwing way more overhand now and doesn't have a problem with RHH. His curve was filthy with way more 12-6 than the 9-3 it used to be and fastball command was excellent. His stat line today matches exactly what I saw. Of course Tampa doesn't have much hitting... I wonder what kind of relief pitcher he'd be with his new delivery. I hope they bring him back.

His new delivery is the same one he used as a starter earlier in his career. When he was converted to the bullpen (due to durability/healthy issues) he dropped his arm angle in an attempt to be more dominant against LHBs specifically. It worked, but the smaller workload didn't solve the health issues.

That was a tremendously entertaining game. Great start by hill,
Castillo should not be allowed to try to steal anymore.

I feel like he left a lot of fastballs over the middle of the plate today, but very intrigued by the Rich Hill as a starter project. If they can get something out of him next year as a fifth starter that would be kind of amazing.

Fwiw, I understand his pitcbing to Sandy Leon, wbo caught him in AAA and did a good job tonight, but hope he gets to start a game at Fenway with fellow homeboy Hanigan catching him. Fill the place with relatives and legions of friends. Great party after.lets hope Dave liked what he saw. How could he not?!

Does Allen Craig have the same facial expression as Allen Webster? Unfortunately it just looks a bit hang-dog. I bet they hit about as well as each other. Well that is probably true. Craig has to be one the the great mysteries of the modern world. I have to feel badly for him though.

Rich Hill is a hell of a story. He'd be a nice minor league signing this offseason (either as Pawtucket rotation depth or as a potential lefty reliever). Given the premium on starting pitching across the league - even #5 and 6 starters - that he's left-handed and that he has had MLB success I have to believe that if he throws one more quality start this year and looks serviceable, some team would likely offer him a heavily incentivized MLB contract with a low (MLB minimum or slightly more). They could tie the incentives to starts or appearances. Nice story either way. I always was a fan of Hill's.

His curve is one of my all time favorite pitches. It's like he's throwing wiffleballs out there.
