Still has a good fastball, seems like a decent bullpen option for 2016.

Definitely the sort of arm that Dombrowski would want a plethora of in the pen. He isn't a terrible option to throw at the wall and see if he can stick. The fastball has always been there.

Some solace in the price for the acquisition of Saltalamacchia; Mendez back in the org., McGuiness never panned out in Texas, and Thomas out of baseball since2012.

You got ~6 bWAR of catching for basically nothing. Salty isn't very good, but his overall game was adequate in his three years in Boston, and he was a solid contributor in 2013, which will likely be his best year.

He has had some control problems. His fastball is 93-94. Generally pitched well in the minors and had a decent half season in 2014 for the Rangers. Only pitched 11 innings for the Rangers this year.

seems like a decent bullpen option for 2016. Yeah ZiPS projects him for a 4.67 ERA, sounds like a setup man to me.

We already have enough of those guys in the current pen. This is the wildest of fliers. DD doesn't want 93-94 with control issues. He wants 96-100 who command.

No the key was the lottery ticket the outfielder Beltre. He started off good. Engle Beltre I think.

Undoing the work that Chris Mellen hath wrought.
Don't know what I'm talking about? Story is in the tenth anniversary podcast last fall.

Too bad Dombrowski ain't a stats guy, so he likely thinks ZiPS is the name of a lighter. I'm not sure what you mean by "wrong". The projection doesn't say "he's absolutely 100% going to have exactly this stat line", it says there's a 50% chance he's better than that and a 50% chance he's worse than that. In other words, there's at least a 50% chance he makes people on this forum want to puke if he sticks in our bullpen. You hate projection systems and don't trust them? Fine, how about this, he has a career 5.34 xFIP in the majors. (I prefer SIERA, which is a bit more favourable at 4.84, but if you hate projection systems you probably hate SIERA too.)

Is Roman Mendez getting added to the Young Graduates, and is Luis Ysla getting added to the Top Prospects list?

We'll have to discuss Mendez (my gut says no, since he didn't graduate with the Sox, but we'll see). We decided to wait on Ysla until we have more data from Instructs. Based on what I've heard, he probably slots in the Top 40 somewhere.
