I'd like to ask everyone to move Miley-related discussion to that specific thread. Thanks.

The more I look at Furbush's stats, the more he looks like a LOOGY.
For his career, he has a 4.92 FIP an 4.18 xFIP vs. RHH.

Furbush was a wise mention....I'm guessing its Furbush+ (mid-level prospect, maybe 2)?
I think Carson is off the table, that doesn't seem like someone DiPoto would be eager to move.

Considering trades usually turn out worse for the Sox that we all initially think, I'm guessing there's no way Carson is coming. I hope I'm wrong because I think he is a best case scenario, but I'm pessimistic. I know nothing about baseball.

Jayson Stark Verified account @jaysonst
Not sure what to make of this. But Reds telling teams they haven't yet agreed to trade Aroldis Chapman to LA. I don't think Dodgers agree
I'm not exactly sure where my ill will for the Dodgers stem from on this, but I'm really hoping for an overpay or for another team to get him.

Not sure where to put general offseason news, but this is pretty important -
Tim Britton @timbritton 5m5 minutes ago
Dombrowski said it looks like Vazquez should be ready for Opening Day.

I really hope that they're just talking, and not actually making progress...

Buster Olney @buster_ESPN 18m18 minutes ago Source said this morning pegged odds of a Jose Fernandez trade at 1%. Now: "I'd push that into the 40s(%)." MIA can get a lot in return.

There is nobody who works harder than Christian Vazquez. I'm not surprised by this at all. It will depend on not pushing him excessively, but it gives the team three viable catching options. That's rich in these catching-lean times. It might not happen right away, but Hanigan may be traded if it's accurate.

I don't know the basis of your statement OreonNorm re Vazquez but if true, this is all to the good. I thought that Vazquez also had pretty good plate discipline, probably better receiving skills, a better arm and pop time etc. than Hanigan. Certainly Hanigan has value....which could make him an add-on in a trade. I think that we would all have to agree that Dombrowski is a no-nonsense get-it-done guy. I am very impressed so far.

He's my favourite catcher and was petty bummed when he got injured last year. It might take awhile, but if he gets back to being the elite defensive catcher that he was/is, this Red Sox team is scary good.

There have been a number of stories that spoke to his dedication, the off-season work, the focus, the desire. I'll see if I can dig a few of those up if you'd like.

after today's trade with Seattle, does dombrowski still have any interest in trading for Shelby Miller?

after today's trade with Seattle, does dombrowski still have any interest in trading for Shelby Miller? He has interest in any upgrade available to the roster if it makes sense. I would expect him to closely monitor the market and engage other teams if it seems like things are changing. Someone wrote earlier that the Indians are "scrambling" to shore up their OF. So much so that a writer wondered if they'd move Kipnis to the OF. Wouldn't be shocked to see the Indians re-engage other teams on Carrasco.

Yeah but where will he be playing? He's still probably starting the year in Pawtucket to get the year long of at bats he missed last year and catch up to game speed without his at bats affecting the Boston's performance in the majors.

I don't see any scenario barring an injury that Vazquez doesn't start out in Pawtucket.

Wait, there are two dirtywaters? wth?
Anyway, this is going to be a lot different than last year while we (and everyone) were waiting on Lester. It looks like they're done unless they get a great deal and will probably be taking calls instead of making calls.
